You Hurt My Feelings
This looks nice. I haven’t seen all of Nicole Holofcener’s work, but the ones I have I enjoyed. I like their lowkey vibes, and the actors are usually stellar. It’s great to see her reunite with Julia Louis-Dreyfus. It just looks like a very pleasant and amusing little film, not a ton to dig into, but I’m looking forward to it.

Quasi
I had no idea there was a new Broken Lizard film in the works, so this was a pleasant surprise. And it appears to the be the only one aside from The Slammin’ Salmon that isn’t directed by Jay Chandrasekhar. I’m definitely excited. Sure, it doesn’t look amazing, it looks very silly and juvenile, but I like these guys, and I’ve enjoyed their movies, so I’m sure I’ll have a good time with this one.
Quasi premieres exclusively on Hulu on April 20th.
Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken
Trying really hard not to say the title to myself in the tune of the TMNT theme song. Anyways, I’m a little confused by the premise. Ruby is hiding amongst the people, as a person, hiding her Kraken self, and yet…she still looks like a kraken? Unless everyone is too distracted by the mermaid to notice, but I don’t know, whatever. Otherwise, this looks fine. DreamWorks has been on a bti of a roll recently, so I’m curious to see if this lives up to some of their recent outputs.
Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken opens in theaters on June 30th.
Joy Ride
There’s some fun stuff here. I’m definitely happy to see Adele Lim have her directorial debut out there. I didn’t laugh as much as I would have hoped, teenagers screaming and getting into hijinks doesn’t always translate well in a two minute trailer. I’m sure the movie itself will allow these scenes to breathe and be funny in a way that a comedy trailer can’t. The cast looks great, the story is amusing, yeah, I’m in.
Joy Ride hits theaters on July 7th.
Rye Lane
I haven’t heard much about this, at least not compared to other Sundance movies, but I like the vibe here. It looks cool, the characters look compelling, I like that it seems to play things in a very real and relatable way. Plus, it’s cool to be able to see a part of London (I’m assuming this is London) that we don’t often get, at least, not in movies that are pushed to the US. Will be keeping my eye out for this.

Kill Boksoon
Looks good to me. This looks like it’ll be a great year for action movies. We got the new John Wick, Furies on Netflix, this, and many others that I’m excited for. I haven’t seen anything from director Byun Sung-hyun, but this looks like it might be a cool way to venture into his filmography. Fingers crossed this is a good one.
