The Flash

Hmm…I don’t know, I honestly thought I would be more excited for this than I am. Particularly for Keaton’s Batman, but honestly, when he shows up, it feels less like a triumphant return, and more sad, like an animal being dragged around in a circus. It also doesn’t help that the wildly animated moves they make him do not only doesn’t track with how old I’d imagine this Batman being, but doesn’t even reflect his combat style in his own movies, it’s like the Yoda in Attack Of The Clones thing all over again. I do appreciate the vibrant look, and the wild, comic-book-y imagery, and I certainly recognize a lot of beats from Flashpoint, but I hope this doesn’t crush itself under the weight of all this stuff they’re throwing around. This thing has been in the works for so long, I just gotta see what we’re getting.

The Flash races into theaters on June 16th.

Air

Well, this is an extremely silly idea for a movie, but you know, after The Social Network, and The LEGO Movie, I’m done judging movies strictly by their premise. Plus, I do like Affleck as a director, and while it does seem a bit odd that the first movie to be at least revolving around Michael Jordan will be tackled by him, I guess the approach of exploring this Nike deal is a unique way of doing that without going full biopic. Though, I’m curious if we even do see Jordan at any point in the movie, it would be pretty funny if we didn’t.

Air hits theaters on April 5th.

Fast X

There is so much going on in the trailer, I genuinely have no idea what is happening. I enjoyed F9, but there were parts where I felt like the seams on this franchise were really beginning to show. And considering Justin Lin, the man responsible for reinventing this franchise for the better, left due to creative differences, is pretty concerning, and that’s nothing against Louis Leterrier, who is a totally solid filmmaker. The scope of the action here is so wild, fully reaching superhero levels, I don’t know if it can totally sustain it all, but I feel I will at least be entertained by it. So, bring it on.

Fast X hits theaters on May 19th.

Love Again

How does this theatrically releasing rom-com look more like a Netflix rom-com than most Netflix rom-coms?? The framing, the lighting, it all looks so cheap, and uninspired, and occasionally straight up drab. It’s wild to me that out of all the talented actors in Bollywood, the one that crosses over is Priyanka Chopra, not to say she’s bad, but she doesn’t bring a whole lot to the table, in my humble opinion. However, the film featuring a supporting role for Celine Dion is a kind of gimmick I can get behind, so…I’ll probably end up seeing this.

Love Again opens in theaters on May 12th.

Children Of The Corn

Interesting. I don’t have much attachment to the original movie(s), it’s bee so long since I’ve seen them, so I’m open to a new interpretation. There’s so many odd things about this trailer, from the voice over, to the music that feels like it would be more appropriate for a superhero movie. But also, one thing that fascinates me the most is the fact that this is written and directed by Kurt Wimmer, who hasn’t directed anything since Ultraviolet back in 2006, though he has written several films since then here and there. It’s such a wonky trailer, that I can’t say I’m excited for it, but I will probably check it out.

Children Of The Corn hits select theaters on March 3 before being released on VOD on March 21st.

Unseen

Honestly, not a bad idea for a thriller. There’s definitely some potential here, but that goes both ways. I can also see this really stretching suspension of disbelief to a point of no return. This is the directorial debut from a Yoko Okumura, and it’s a part of this deal between Blumhouse/Paramount and MGM for streaming releases on their MGM+ platform. Seems solid enough, just based on the trailer, but not much else to comment on. Hope it’s good!

Unseen hits VOD platforms on March 7th before streaming exclusively on MGM+ beginning on an unspecified date in May.
