The First Omen

Well, this is a pleasant surprise. I can’t think of something more eye-rolling than a prequel film to The Omen being made now, but the direction and editing of this trailer is really evocative and striking and actually seems like there is some kind of vision behind this. I have no idea who this director, Arkasha Stevenson, is but I am very much intrigued by this.

The First Omen hits theaters on April 5th.

Badland Hunters

Look, if your movie has Don Lee beating the absolute life out of people, you don’t need anything else to sell me on it. I’m 100% in. This looks like a fun time. The wildest thing about this is that this is apparently a sequel to Concrete Utopia, South Korea’s submission for the Oscars, which is…not even remotely in this vibe. It would be like following up The Mist with Mad Max. I just don’t see the connection. Very fascinated by that. Still, this looks fun, and I’m very excited for it.

Badland Hunters hits Netflix on January 26th.

Out Of Darkness

I love this. I love the look, the vibe, the style, I love that we’re getting a movie set in the Paleolithic age. I really wish we got more movies set in this period. And this is a directorial debut, so who knows what to expect from this filmmaker. I don’t know if this will go full supernatural or simple use those trappings as a red herring. Either way, I’m hooked, can’t wait to see this.

Out Of Darkness opens in theaters on February 9th.

The Promised Land

So, I’ve already seen this. You can catch my brief review in an upcoming 2023 Movie Catch-Up post – though, not the one I’ll publish tomorrow. I’ll just say it’s awesome. I really dug it, and I would definitely encourage you to see it if it’s playing near you.

The Promised Land opens in select theaters on February 2nd.

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F

I really enjoy the Beverly Hills Cop movies, so I’m definitely up for revisiting this franchise. Obviously it could go sideways as some of these revival movies have been, but I’d like to stay optimistic for an Eddie Murphy resurgence, especially after Dolemite Is My Name.

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F will stream on Netflix on a currently unspecified date in summer 2024.
