The Equalizer 3

I really hope the Dakota Fanning bit isn’t just a cameo cause that’s the vibe I’m getting based off this trailer. But if it is, at least the action looks great. I really enjoy these movies not just because there’s slasher movie levels of violence, but Washington is very charming and engaging. The stories are straightforward and do a good job at setting the stakes, and the construction of the action scenes are often pretty clever and interesting. Definitely one I’ll be highly anticipating.

The Equalizer 3 hits theaters on September 1st.

Robots

Cool, they did a remake of the obscure 1981 sci-fi rom-com, Andy Kaufman vehicle Heartbeeps.OK, maybe not, but it’s pretty similar in setup, though with probably not as much weird charm. It doesn’t look that bad though, it’s actually nice to see a movie where Shailene Woodley gets to cut loose and get wacky. The jokes are pretty hit-and-miss, but there’s potential. I hope it lives up to that.

Robots opens in select theaters and VOD platforms on May 19th.

L’immensità

I haven’t seen anything from Emanuele Crialese, but I really dig the vibe I’m getting from this trailer, it’s beautifully filmed, you got great talent on screen, a story that is sadly still very relevant. Has the makings of something really special. This is one I will be keeping an eye out for. Could be something that really sneaks up on audiences.

L’immensità hits select theaters on May 12th.

Next Goal Wins

Yup, this looks fun. I tend to like Taika Waititi’s impulses more than I dislike them, though I do think he can get in the way of himself sometimes. But when it comes to smaller films like this, I think he’s definitely in a god comfort zone that usually brings out the best in him. I vaguely heard about the true story, but haven’t looked into what changes the film made, which I’m sure there are many, if anything than just to add more humor. I dig it, it looks cute.

Next Goal Wins opens in theaters on November 17th.

Reality

Alright, I’m in. I honestly don’t know much about this story, I only just now learned that her name is Reality Winner, truly wild. And I believe this is Tina Satter adapting her own play, which can go one of two ways. You can get a The Father situation or you can get a The Son situation. You never know until you’re there watching it. I do like Sydney Sweeney, she’s a hell of a performer, and this gives her a chance to stretch some muscles that I don’t think she’s really gotten yet.

Reality is set to premiere on HBO and Max on May 29th.

A Haunting In Venice

Now this is a great trailer. Wow. I totally forgot we’re getting another Hercule Poirot mystery from Kenneth Branagh. I’ve greatly enjoyed all these films, and what’s so cool about this is the horror angle they are taking with a lot of the filmmaking. That’s a genre Branagh hasn’t tackled in a hot minute, and it really suits his sensibilities well. I can’t wait for this. I’m very excited.

A Haunting In Venice hits theaters on September 15th.
