The Crow
Doesn’t look that bad, honestly. Doesn’t look that great either, but considering the depths of developmental hell this went through, it’s shocking to see this actually get a release. I do like Bill Skarsgård, and the action looks solid. The original film was so of its time, it doesn’t really make sense to remake it because there isn’t much else you can do with it aside from a pure stylistic exercise, and this doesn’t look particularly stylish. I don’t know, it looks fine, I guess, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
The Crow hits theaters on June 7th.
The Greatest Hits
I like the premise. It’s one of those “I’m surprised they haven’t done it before” kind of movies. I hope it doesn’t overthink the time travel mechanic, and instead utilizes it as a purely emotionally driven idea. The cast looks good, I like everyone involved. I dug the Eleanor Rigby movies from Ned Benson, so hopefully this will be an interesting step forward in his career.
The Greatest Hits opens in select theaters on April 5th before it streams exclusively on Hulu on April 12th.
Poolman
So, this notoriously got a ton of walkouts during its festival premiere. I can’t immediately see as to why that might be, it looks like harmless fluff aiming to hit that Big Lebowski/Under The Silver Lake, LA set noir comedy vibe. I am still curious about it. After all, it had such an extreme response, there has to be something interesting about it, right? I’ll give it a shot, with tempered expectations, of course.
Poolman opens in select theaters on May 10th.
The Listener
I didn’t even know Steve Buscemi had a movie coming out. It looks like a really strong vehicle for Tessa Thompson, especially given the subject matter, which is naturally very heavy. It seems like it mostly takes place in her apartment too, which is interesting. I like what I see. If done right, this could be something special. I’ll be keeping an eye out for this.

Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver
I didn’t hate the first part of Rebel Moon like a lot of people seemed to, but it did really annoy me that they unnecessarily broke the story into two parts, and that they released a trimmed down “theatrical cut” when they could have just released the actual full movie. But nope, Netflix wanted to replicate the whole Snyder Cut thing, and it made the experience that much worse. I’m still waiting for that extended r-rated cut, which I’m sure is better, and I bet it will be the same for this. So, I don’t know, I want to like this, but I’m skeptical. And this is coming from someone who likes Snyder.
Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver hits Netflix on April 19th.
The Acolyte
This is easily the most intrigued I’ve been by a new Star Wars thing in a long time. A fresh story, one that seems to have its own vibe, that doesn’t rely on nostalgia and callbacks, and isn’t connected to the Skywalker saga or anything revolving around those characters and their movies. This has my curiosity for sure, and there’s some cool people involved. It is a Disney+ show, so who knows how it will end up, but I’m gonna give this one a go.
The Acolyte premieres exclusively on Disney+ on June 4th.
