The Craft: Legacy
This movie came so out of nowhere, it didn’t even have an IMDb page when the trailer first dropped. It’s been a while since I’ve seen The Craft, but I remember liking it quite a bit. I actually revisited the trailer for the original before I watched this, and was not-that-surprised that even though this is seemingly taking place in the same world as the original, it seems to be a retread that goes over most of the same plot beats. But that could just be the trailer. Based on what I heard about Zoe Lister-Jones’ debut film Band Aid from a few years back, it sounds like she’s an interesting filmmaker, so I would hope she has something more compelling up her sleeves than a basic remake. I’ll give it a shot, especially because I think Cailee Spaeny is very talented. But hey, it does make me want to revisit the original.

Sound Of Metal
I heard a lot of good buzz about this from its festival run, so I’ve been curious about it since. The trailer is really well done. Although, I have to say, the first thing that caught me off-guard was going through almost the entire thing before realizing that the girl was Olivia Cooke, I did not recognize her at first. Riz Ahmed is a reliable actor, so I’m sure he’ll be great. I’m very curious to see how they dramatize this story, I’ve heard a lot of praise regarding the sound design, and the little taste we got of it in this trailer is really gripping. I can’t wait to see this.
Sound of Metal hits select theaters November 20th, and on Prime Video December 4th.
Holidate
Definitely looks like another Netflix rom-com. I mean, now that the major studios have seemingly stopped making stuff like this, I guess I’m glad Netflix is reviving the genre. I have enjoyed many in the past, and I’m sure I’ll have a decent time watching this, even if the premise seems flimsy at best. At least Emma Roberts and Luke Bracey seem like a solid pair. It looks fine.

Books Of Blood
Looks like they’re taking the Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark approach, where they take a few different short stories, and combine them within a single feature. I haven’t read the books that this is based on, but given that it’s Clive Barker, I’m sure this will be gnarly as hell. Looks like they got a decent budget, the cast looks good, and I’m in the mood for some scary stuff as we head into October. Bring it on, Books Of Blood.
Books Of Blood will arrive on Hulu on October 7th.
Lupin III: The First
My only exposure to the Lupin III character has been through Hayao Miyazaki’s 1979 debut, The Castle of Cagliostro, which I did really enjoy. There has been numerous adaptations of the character and his stories, but this one is the first to be a computer animated feature, and I gotta say, it looks really cool and a ton of fun. It’s got all the trappings of a good adventure, and I love the energy this is giving off. Sucks that I won’t see this in a theater, but I will happily wait until it’s available on digital.
Lupin III: The First opens in theaters on October 18th.
