Somebody I Used To Know

Looks cute. I enjoyed Dave Franco’s directorial debut, The Rental, well enough, and it’s nice to see him go off the horror path into a different genre. I like a good rom-com, and this has a decent enough premise and a solid enough cast to warrant some attention. Not a lot to dig into, so keeping fingers crossed that the film is as strong as the trailer.

Somebody I Used To Know will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on February 10th.

Marlowe

I had no idea this was pushed back, I somehow thought this just came and went, and I just forgot about it. I hope there isn’t any bad reason to take this out of its original December (I think?) release date, like knowing there wasn’t going to be any awards possibilities or something like that. I’m still on board, I like Liam Neeson, and I like a good noir-inspired detective story, and Neil Jordan is a strong director. Still very much looking forward to this.

Marlowe opens in theaters on February 15th.

Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret

Ever since seeing and adoring The Edge Of Seventeen, I’ve been highly anticipating whatever Kelly Fremon Craig does next. I’ve certainly heard of this book, but have managed to go this long not even knowing what it was about. I do find it weird that they’re saying that they are “introducing” Abby Ryder Fortson when she pretty much stole every scene she was featured in those Ant-Man movies. But whatever, this looks great, and it’s definitely one of my more highly anticipated projects this year.

Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret opens in theaters on April 28th.

Godland

The only film I’ve seen from Hlynur Pálmason is A White, White Day, which I remember really enjoying, so I’m definitely intrigued by whatever he has coming up, but even if I didn’t, this trailer leaves a very good impression. Feels like it would make a compelling double feature with Silence, which I loved, and this looks to take a weirder, more psychological approach, as opposed to philosophical. The camera work looks incredible as well. Definitely keeping my eye out for this one.

Godland will hit theaters beginning February 3rd before expanding in the following weeks.

Your Place Or Mine

Our second rom-com trailer, and I dig this one too. This is the directorial debut of Aline Brosh McKenna, who is kind of a rom-com screenwriting veteran from the 2000s, so I’m curious to see if she can tap into that old school rom-com vibe. I feel like it’s been forever since I’ve seen Reese Witherspoon in anything, so I’ll be glad to see her again, and especially in a genre that she can maneuver with ease.

Your Place Or Mine hits Netflix on February 10th.

History Of The World, Part II

I love Mel Brooks with every fiber of my being, so it delights me to see him still working again, even if he isn’t necessarily holding the reins like he used to. The fact that he’s even remotely involved is great, and add the fact that there’s a murderers row of excellent comedic talent in this show is extra exciting to see. Brooks’ sense of humor does have a tendency to be a bit old school in its rhythm and timing, and I hope they both retain that voice, and perform it in a way that is effective for a modern audience. I was pumped when this was first announced, and I’m even more excited now that I saw this.

History Of The World, Part II will premiere exclusively on Hulu starting March 6th.
