Showing Up

I generally like the work of Kelly Reichardt, I think she has a unique vision with a clear eye for character and a sense of place, operating on her own rhythm as a storyteller. Sometimes that rhythm can feel long, but it’s wholly her own. This looks very pleasant and compelling, I’m always in for whatever Michelle Williams does, she never does wrong in my book, for the most part. This is one I’m excited for.

Showing Up will hit theaters on a currently unspecified date in spring 2023.

Oppenheimer

Yes, this looks good. The cast looks good. It looks well made. Not sure what else to really talk about here that isn’t said by pretty much anyone else. I suppose it’s interesting to see some of this imagery that looks borderline experimental compared to how Christopher Nolan usually does his filmmaking. I wonder how much of that will be reflected in the film itself. I also wonder how much truth there is to the reports that Nolan’s been trying to replicate the explosion, but…you know…minus all the bad stuff. Anyway, very excited for this, so can’t wait.

Oppenheimer opens in theaters on July 21st, 2023.

Alone At Night

What a random cast. I can’t say I’m familiar with Jimmy Giannopoulos or any of his work, so it’s hard to say whether this looks like it will be trashy in a good way or a bad way. I like a good home invasion thriller, but I can’t tell if this is trying to be playing this all straight or if it’s intentionally kind of goofy. Can’t say it made a strong impression, but if the word on it is good, I’ll give it a shot.

Alone At Night opens in select theaters and VOD platforms on January 20th, 2023.

Of An Age

This is from Goran Stolevski, who also made this year’s You Won’t Be Alone, which is still on my catch-up list, and I’ve heard some very promising things about this one. It’s definitely an interesting jump, genre wise, but maybe it’s a more personal story for the filmmaker, who is an out gay man, if I’m not mistaken. It looks compelling to me, I would be very curious to check it out.

Of An Age will be released in theaters on February 10th, 2023.

The Seven Faces Of Jane

I’ve kind of always wanted to see an anthology film like this, one that follows a characters, seemingly through a singular arc that just happens to incorporate different stories that are handled by different directors. Maybe it has been done before, and I haven’t seen it. Either way, I’m very intrigued by this. Gillian Jacobs is also a really good actor that I’ve been hoping to see more of, I feel she’s very underutilized. Definitely keeping my eye out for this.

The Seven Faces Of Jane will open in select theaters and VOD platforms on January 13th.

JUNG_E

The latest from Train To Busan and Psychokinesis director, Yeon Sang-ho, a sci-fi film that appears to involve robots and the future. Two things that I think are totally rad. Don’t know much else about this, but I dig this director a lot, and while I didn’t love his sequel to Train To Busan, I was still on board with it, and I think he has a fun sense of imagination, and I can’t wait to see him apply that imagination to this subject matter.

JUNG_E hits Netflix on January 20th, 2023.
