Point Blank

I totally forgot that Joe Lynch had a Netflix movie coming out! This was a pleasant surprise when putting assembling this together. This looks like a lot of fun. I haven’t seen the 2010 French film this is based on, though I hear it is pretty good. We don’t see a lot of movies now involving normal people being thrust into outlandish situations, every protagonist is some ex-special forces or something or other, so the dynamic between Anthony Mackie and Frank Grillo’s characters could lead to some really cool stuff. I’m into this.

Point Blank will available on Netflix on July 12th.

Ready Or Not

I think the trailer gives just a little too much away, mostly in some of the kills, but that aside, this does look like a ton of fun. I honestly don’t remember much of what directors, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin & Tyler Gillett, did in V/H/S or Southbound, and I haven’t seen Devil’s Due, though I haven’t heard great things about it. But I’m definitely willing to give this one a shot. It does look significantly better than anything they’ve done before. It just looks like a damn good time.

Ready Or Not hits theaters on August 23rd.

Bad Trip

I have a hard time buying that none of these people recognize Eric Andre, Lil Rel Howery, or Tiffany Haddish, especially considering the last two were featured in prominent roles in high grossing films. However, funny is funny, and I did find the idea kinda amusing. I normally don’t care for pranks, but this one seems to do it in a way that I like, where the emphasis is placed on the comedians to put themselves into ridiculous situations for the real people to react to as opposed to doing something to those people. I’ll give it a shot, we haven’t gotten a movie like this in a while.

Bad Trip will release in theaters on October 25th.

Trespasser

Meh. Seems like a rather standard home invasion movie. Doesn’t seem to have much else to it. I was a bit puzzled by that line about no moral order, and “can my violence conquer yours,” until one of the comments made me remember that – yeah, that’s basically a line lifted right out of Shutter Island, which is…odd. Maybe there’s more to it that the trailer is hiding, but it’s not doing it any favors by looking as generic as possible. I’d love to be wrong, though.

Trespasser will open in select cinemas and hit VOD platforms on July 12th.

Into The Ashes

I’m really into this. I actually got a screener sent to me a couple days ago, and I’m really looking forward to checking it out. You can catch my review close to this film’s release date. It seems like a gnarly little throwback, and I’m always into whatever Frank Grillo and James Badge Dale got going on, so I can’t wait to check this out.

Into The Ashes will be available in select theaters and VOD platforms on July 19th.

The Naked Director

A series about the guy who revolutionized the Japanese porn industry in the 1980s? Yeah, that’s a hell of a hook. I’m pretty selective and lazy about the shows I watch, but assuming this doesn’t overstay its welcome, I might consider checking this out.

The Naked Director will begin streaming on Netflix on August 8th.

Love, Antosha

Well, this is gonna be a rough watch. Anton Yelchin was such a great talent, and he will forever be missed. They got a ton of big names for this, which is going to be really cool. I look forward to seeing all the stories from these actors and filmmakers about what it was like working with him. I don’t expect this to be groundbreaking or anything like that, but as a touching farewell to a beloved actor, I can’t imagine anything more perfect than this.

Love, Antosha will open in select theaters on August 2nd.
