Peninsula

Train To Busan was a wonderful film, and it was one that was a genuine out-of-nowhere surprise. I also really enjoyed the director’s follow up film, the criminally underseen Psychokinesis, also available on Netflix, by the way. When I heard Yeon Sang-ho was making a sequel to his zombie film, I was actually kinda disappointed, and wanted to see him apply his skills to something new. Now, having seen the trailer, I’m sold. Granted, I feel like this is more or less delivering what I would have expected, so the surprise factor feels gone, but it still looks exciting and weird and fun, so I’m still on board. I’m actually curious to see how this compares to that Zack Snyder zombie movie that’s supposed to hit Netflix this year. Anyway, watch Train To Busan if you haven’t, and do check out Psychokinesis, it’s a joy.

Peninsula will open in theaters maybe, hopefully, who knows, at some point this year.

The Wretched

Looks neat. Modernizing some of those folklore about witches or something, at least that’s the vibe I’m getting. Could be a full blown creature feature. I actually got a screener for this, so I’ll find out soon enough if it’s good or not.

The Wretched hits VOD platforms on May 1st.

To The Stars

Seems fine to me, I guess. It’s a pretty generic trailer for a seemingly generic coming-of-age movie that’s clearly trying really hard to sell its 60s setting on a fairly low budget, which I find kinda charming, if I’m being honest. Not much else to dig into here, it looks fine.

To The Stars will be released on VOD platforms on April 24th.

Love Wedding Repeat

So, this was giving me strong Richard Curtis vibes, but…like, as if someone was trying really hard to write something like Richard Curtis would, and not really doing it well. I did a bit of research, and it turns out this is written and directed by Dean Craig, who is best known for writing Death At A Funeral, which is a film I like a lot, but looking at his filmography, it seems like he hasn’t quite captured the same spark on anything he’s written since – though, I admittedly haven’t seen any of them, I’m just going by the general critical consensus. I wasn’t particularly sold on this trailer, but the film itself could be fine. I like the idea of seeing Sam Claflin stretch his comedic muscles, so that’s something to look forward to, I suppose.

Love Wedding Repeat will be available on Netflix on April 10th.

Bad Education

Yeah, I already talked about the teaser, and any thoughts I have on this are still pretty much the same having seen the full trailer. It looks interesting, the director has a ton of potential, and I dig the cast. I can’t wait to see it. That’s all the trailers this week, as usual, trailers are slow to come out since release dates keep getting pushed back, so you’ll be seeing more stuff from VOD, TV, and streaming services on here.

Bad Education premieres on HBO on April 25th.

Thoughts on any of the trailers? Feel free to discuss in the comments!

A quick note: I am grateful to everyone who comes over, and reads my stuff. I hope it provides some kind of distraction from all the things that are happening out there because of the COVID-19 situation. Having said that, my usual source of income is gone because of the pandemic, so while I am thankfully in a slightly better position than most, any contribution to my PayPal (which you can do so here) would be greatly appreciated. If you have any ideas for incentives for people who donate, I’m all ears, feel free to get in touch. Obviously, you don’t have to if you don’t want to, only give if you are able, and of course prioritize the ones in need around you. Stay safe, and thanks to anyone who donates!
