Needle In A Timestack
I couldn’t help but chuckle in the beginning when the white lady is telling Leslie Odom Jr. that he can go to any point in time, and I’m thinking to myself, “sadly…no, he can’t.” Jokes aside, this looks intriguing. I don’t think I’ve seen anything that John Ridley has directed, so I don’t know what to expect from this, but it has my curiosity. The title is corny as all hell though.
Needle In A Timestack will hit select theaters and VOD platforms on October 15th.
Encounter
I have never heard of Michael Pearce before seeing this trailer, but I am very interested in seeing what exactly is going on here. Great sense of mystery and suspense and intrigue. It’s a very well constructed trailer. This is one I’ll be keeping on my radar.
Encounter hits Amazon Prime Video on December 10th.
There’s Somoeone Inside Your House
They keep saying the killer is wearing a mask that looks like the face of everyone he or she kills, but…they all look the same? Or maybe they’re detailed in a way that is hard to get across in a trailer that has a lot of quick cuts. I’m not a huge fan of the two Creep movies, but Patrick Brice does show some skill behind the camera, and this does look more fun than those movies. And it seems to have a similar sense of humor too. I don’t think it looks great, it seems pretty by the numbers, but that could be fun if there’s a cool vibe to it all, and it looks like there just might be.
There’s Someone Inside Your House will be released on Netflix on October 6th.
Wheel Of Fortune And Fantasy
I haven’t seen most of Ryusuke Hamaguchi’s films, but I did really like Asako I & II, so I’m very excited to see him back and touching on some similar but still distinct territory. Not a whole lot to really dig into here, I love the low-key quality this has, the stories seem compelling and grounded, and it looks beautifully made. This is one I’ll definitely try to catch.

7 Prisoners
This definitely has my immediate attention. This looks really intense. Alexandre Moratto appears to be a relative newcomer as a director, but he really has a strong grasp at tension and creating a claustrophobic environment. Or at least the trailer made it looks that way. However, the word on this from festivals seem to be good, so we might have something special here. I can’t wait to check it out. We don’t seem to get a lot of films about modern day slavery, so it’s nice to see something like this hit a mainstream platform.
7 Prisoners will be released on Netflix on a currently unspecified date in November.
Midnight Mass
I’m here for anything Mike Flanagan does, he’s long earned that. And even if he wasn’t involved here, this trailer is interesting and well crafted enough to catch my attention. It doesn’t give too much away, but it sets up an interesting environment and atmosphere. I wonder if faith is going to be a big theme here. Either way, it’s cool to see Flanagan tackle an original idea instead of another adaptation. He’s a very gifted filmmaker, and if the quality of his last few projects are of any indication, this will be pretty great.
Midnight Mass hits Netflix on September 24th.
