Mass

I heard quite a lot of buzz out of this film from Sundance. I can definitely see why, topical premise combined with a showcase for a number of actors to just do their thing in a seemingly contained space, if that doesn’t get critics going, I don’t know what will. There’s always a chance a film like this could come across as over-the-top or simplistic, and I haven’t read deep into the word-of-mouth on this to have determine the overall consensus one way or another. I will say that the trailer is very effective, and it does make me excited to check it out.

Mass hits theaters on October 8th.

Mayday

This could definitely go either way. But I am curious. I actually hadn’t even heard of this prior to putting this list together, but I’m digging its vibe. It has an otherworldly feeling to it that I like, and I’m curious how far into the fantastical it’s willing to go. I guess the best thing about this is despite all they show here, I still have no idea what this film is or what to expect. This is one I’ll be sure to put on my radar.

Mayday opens in theaters and VOD platforms on October 1st.

The Power Of The Dog

Jane Campion is one of those filmmakers I still need to familiarize myself with more, and I’m hoping to do that before seeing this. This teaser is definitely intriguing, and the early word on it is great, so it’s definitely one I’m highly anticipating, especially considering the cast involved.

The Power Of The Dog opens in select theaters on November 17th before hitting Netflix on December 1st.

The Velvet Underground

Todd Haynes doing a documentary? Cool. Todd Haynes doing a documentary on The Velvet Underground, absolutely here for it! Not a lot to say about this one, it seems pretty straightforward and self-explanatory. I love the style here, and the interviews seem insightful, yeah, looks good.

The Velvet Underground will arrive in select theaters and Apple TV Plus on October 15th.

Intrusion

Wow I legit did not recognize Logan-Marshall Green there for a second. So used to him with a beard, feels off without it. Maybe that was an intentional choice given how the trailer seemed to go. Anyway, this looks fine, I suppose. It really feels like one of those typical, more disposable Netflix originals. I can’t say it looks promising, but who knows, maybe there’s something more interesting about this that the trailer hides. Ill keep an open mind, but I ain’t rushing to see this when it hits the platform.

Intrusion will be available on Netflix on September 22nd.

Lady Of The Manor

I got a link for this, so I’ll be checking it out probably early next week. This trailer is a bit of a mixed bag if I’m being honest. I guess I shouldn’t expect Justin Long and his little brother, Christian, to be complex visual stylists or anything, but man, does this look cheap as hell. However, I love Melanie Lynskey and Judy Greer, so hopefully, it’ll be funny enough to make up for any technical shortcomings. I’ll find out soon enough.

Lady Of The Manor opens in select theaters and VOD platforms on September 21st.
