Living

I feel any remake of an Akira Kurosawa film is deserving of some hesitancy, but considering the talent involved in this, I think this warrants some cautious optimism. You got Oliver Hermanus directing, Kazuo Ishiguro doing the screenplay, and of course, the always reliable Bill Nighy as the star. Not a lot to go on here aside from that, it does look visually interesting, so there’s that. I hope it turns out great.

Living is set to hit select theaters on December 23rd.

End Of The Road

This looks fun, I’m totally in. After doing some quick IMDb skimming, this appears to be the feature debut of director,  Millicent Shelton, who had only done some music videos and a lot of TV stuff over the course of her career. And I gotta say, this doesn’t have that same-y flat and cheap look that a lot of Netflix movies have, it looks like a proper movie. Plus, I like seeing Queen Latifah as a lead in something like this. Though I do find it somewhat amusing to see a film where Ludacris is credited with his real name Chris Bridges, but the film also happens to feature Beau Bridges. Odd coincidence. Anyway, I’m looking forward to this.

End Of The Road will be released on Netflix on September 9th.

The Greatest Beer Run Ever

Alright. I’ll be open-minded. But the last thing we need is Peter Farrelly going full Adam McKay, and think he’s now an “important” filmmaker. This doesn’t look like that thankfully, though I can see the parts where it might veer in that direction. This is a fun premise, and the story behind this is really wild. The cast assembled here is solid, and it does look like a decent amount of money has been put into this, so for the time being, I’ll be cautiously optimistic.

The Greatest Beer Run Ever opens in select theaters and Apple TV+ on September 30th.

Vesper

I’m gonna give Eddie Marsan about half an hour before he dies. Jokes aside, this looks really cool. I love the aesthetic. It looks different from most post-apocalyptic movies that I’ve seen over the years. I’m not too familiar with the filmmakers behind this, Kristina Buozyte and Bruno Samper, but they apparently did a segment on ABCs Of Death 2, so I probably saw that at least. This just looks really creative and interesting, so I’ll definitely be keeping this on my radar.

Vesper hits select theaters and VOD platforms on September 30th.

Guillermo Del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities

I’ve been excited for this for a long time, and I’m glad to finally see something of this. I am not disappointed by what I’m seeing here, I love getting this all introduced from the man himself, and I love all the talent that he’s assembled to make these episodes. I hope this is something he could do every year with a new crop of filmmakers. Very excited for this, can’t wait.

Guillermo Del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities will begin streaming on Netflix starting October 25th.

Speak No Evil

Wow, even that trailer made me uncomfortable, can’t imagine how unbearable the movie itself is going to be. Very into this. As someone who is usually awkward in social situations, this looks like an absolute nightmare, and I’m curious what this is all building towards, especially with that one quote about the ending being really shocking. I’m very intrigued by this, and with Shudder’s stamp of approval, I feel this might be something worth seeking out.

Speak No Evil opens in select theaters on September 9th before being available on Shudder starting September 15th.
