Hit Man

I’ve been looking forward to this for so long, especially since the word of mouth has been so good. I love Linklater, and I think Glen Powell has the makings of a true star. I was hoping this would get picked up by a theatrical distributor, but hey, I guess you gotta take what you can get. This teaser is super delightful, very light and fun, which is basically what I’m hearing about the film, so yeah, can’t wait.

Hit Man will be streaming on Netflix June 7th with a planned limited theatrical run just before.

Suncoast

Looks charming enough, in that Sundance darling kinda way. It is interesting to basically have a story about experiencing grief but for someone who hasn’t passed yet. You know it’s coming, and you’re trying to prepare yourself, but things don’t quite seem right, and others will judge you for how you act. Definitely sets it a part from a million other movies that explore this, even if the general vibe is something I’ve seen many times before. Plus, the cast is solid, so I feel like this is one of those movies that would be comfortable in a streaming platform. I might check this out.

Suncoast will stream on Hulu February 9th.

Bleeding Love

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, can’t imagine anything better for a date night – an addiction drama. Jokes aside, it doesn’t look half bad. It’s directed by someone known for TV work, so not sure what to expect there. However, this stars a real father-daughter duo, Ewan and Clara McGregor, which is very interesting. I didn’t even realize he had a daughter who was getting into acting. Though it appears she had some minor roles already, looking into her IMDb. That’s a neat dynamic to explore, especially in this context. I’ll be curious to see how effective it ends up being.

Bleeding Love hits select theaters and VOD platforms on February 16th.

This Is Me…Now: A Love Story

I can see why this made such a splash online. This looks absolutely unhinged. How is this the most stylish movie I’ve seen in a while? This plot?? All the weird settings and musical numbers??? I have no idea what they’re going for here, but it looks wild, and I am here for it. I don’t know what else to say, I’m not a huge connoisseur of Jennifer Lopez’s music, but this looks like it’ll be a hoot.

This Is Me…Now: A Love Story premieres exclusive on Amazon Prime Video on February 16th.

Avatar: The Last Airbender

I’m very likely not going to watch this, mostly because there’s other shows I’m prioritizing, but also given the creators of the original show left, it seems to just be a nearly shot-for-shot remake, and that the actor playing Sokka allegedly exaggerated or faked his indigenous heritage as a way to get cast, it all just doesn’t inspire much confidence. I’m sure it will be very successful because people like to eat this stuff up, but I don’t know, the original show is already perfect.

Avatar: The Last Airbender premieres on Netflix February 22nd.

The Vince Staples Show

So…I don’t really know who Vince Staples is, I’ve heard the name, but I can’t tell you what he does. But I did see this trailer, and I dig the vibe. After Atlanta finished, this looks like it might scratch a similar Afro-surrealist itch, but with an added Curb Your Enthusiasm-esque meta element that might be really fun to watch, even if you aren’t super aware of who this guy is, which seems to be a recurring gag. It’s a short little trailer, but I like what I see.

The Vince Staples Show hits Netflix on February 15th.
