Get Duked!

This looks fun. Like a British riff on the Most Dangerous Game formula. I remember hearing good things about it during its festival run, back when it was titled “Boyz In The Wood,” a title that I’m honestly glad they changed. Not very familiar with these boys, but the adult cast has me excited – Eddie Izzard, Kate Dickie, Alice Lowe, James Cosmo, what a cool collection of people. This was one I was curious about, but after seeing the trailer, I’m definitely more intrigued.

Get Duked! hits Amazon Prime on August 28th.

Rent-A-Pal

I really dig the premise here. Definintely offers plenty of opportunities for a creepy and sinister atmosphere. I’m curious how far they’ll stretch the idea, whether it goes somewhere more literal or more psychological. Not a whole lot else to take from this, I guess it’s neat seeing Wil Wheaton pop up in something like this. Gonna keep an eye out for this one.

Rent-A-Pal will open in select theaters and VOD platforms on September 11th.

I’m Thinking Of Ending Things

Charlie Kaufman made…a horror movie? Alright, I’m in. Not that I wouldn’t necessarily not be in, it is Charlie Kaufman after all. I may not have adored everything he’s done, but he’s one of those guys you just have to experience whenever he has something new out. His vision is so distinct, and this looks like it’s gonna be a wild rise. Plus, anything with Jesie Buckley as the star gets my immediate attention. Watch Wild Rose if you haven’t already!

I’m Thinking Of Ending Things hits Netflix on September 4th.

A Call To Spy

Despite getting so many WWII movies, we don’t seem to get a ton of espionage movies out of them. I can see why, gun battles do seem inherently more cinematic, but there’s a lot of tension to be mined from having someone try to sabotage the Nazi regime from the inside. There’s quite a few spy stories worth exploring, but here, it’s cool to see some South Asian representation with Radhika Apte as Noor Inayat Khan – who I already know a bit about. This kinda stuff is usually my jam, so I’m v ery excited for this.

A Call To Spy opens in select theaters and VOD platforms on October 2nd.

Stage Mother

This looks amusing, I suppose. I do like Jacki Weaver, I also like Lucy Liu, and Adrian Grenier is…also here. I think the general idea of it certainly has potential, but I can see how it could also be very easily mishandled. Hopefully, it doesn’t go that way. The film looks cute, but it’s not one I’m highly anticipating.

Stage Mother will be released in select theaters and VOD platforms on August 21st.

Honest Thief

It’s nice to know that even in the middle of a pandemic, we can rely on the release of a Liam Neeson action movie. How are we feeling about Liam Neeson by the way? I feel like a lot of us collectively forgot about his, uh…let’s just say “misguided comments.” I’m not gonna lie, though, this looks fun to me. I have enjoyed many of these trashy action movies anyway, so this is naturally something that would appeal to me. I doubt it’ll be all that great, but I’m sure it will scratch a certain itch.

Honest Thief hits select theaters on October 9th.
