Fingernails

I don’t normally make critiques like this, but the impression I’m getting based on the trailer is that this feels so…hetero-normative. There’s an underlying assumption that love means one person committed to one other person, and that it’s somehow inconceivable for more people to be involved. As if non-monogamy isn’t a thing in the world, especially among people who fall somewhere in the LGBTQ umbrella. I’m sure the movie will be perfectly fine, but I can’t help but feel like it’s worldview is somewhat limited, and whatever forward thinking idea it wants to explore, isn’t as fresh as it thinks it is. But I’ll keep an open mind to the possibility that the movie itself might have more than this trailer offers.

Fingernails opens in select theaters on October 27th before premiering exclusively on Apple TV+ on November 3rd.

Suitable Flesh

Joe Lynch riffing on Lovecraft? Sounds like a recipe for one hell of a good time, especially if there’s some erotic weirdness to be had. This looks like a ton of fun. It’s great to see Heather Graham again, I feel like she was due for a comeback a while ago, but it kinda fizzled out. She looks like she’s having a blast here, and the body swap aspect looks really amusing and weird and freaky. It’s been a while since we got a Joe Lynch joint, so very excited to see how this one turns out.

Suitable Flesh opens in select theaters and VOD platforms on October 27th.

All Of Us Strangers

I’ve liked all of Andrew Haigh’s films that I’ve seen, but I haven’t loved any. However, if this movie is as any good as this trailer, we might be in for something special because this is a terrific trailer. The conceit is really fascinating, and ripe for introspective storytelling, the cast is stellar, and man, it all looks absolutely gorgeous. The lighting, the colors, just amazing all around. Can’t wait to see this one.

All Of Us Strangers opens in theaters on December 22nd.

Night Of The Hunted

I wasn’t that big on the Maniac remake, but I can admit that it was a pretty stylish and compellingly crafted film overall. So, clearly Franck Khalfoun has enough in him to pull off something really fun and cool, especially with Alexandre Aja’s blessing. The premise certainly lends itself to some thrilling moments, and nasty acts of violence. What will be interesting is to see if that momentum is maintained. I have a pretty good feeling about it.

Night Of The Hunted will be released on Shudder on October 20th.

The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial

Man, two lost legends, William Friedkin and Lance Reddick. Also, I think Jason Clarke is simple born to play hard-ass counselors who are questioning someone, it just suits his vibe really well. Jokes aside, this is a well constructed trailer, and I wish this was given a theatrical release, just so we can have a Friedkin film in theaters one last time, but either way, this looks like an engaging watch regardless of how you see it. I will be looking forward to this one.

The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial premieres on Paramount+ With Showtime on October 6th before airing on Showtime on October 8th.

In The Fire

I’ve only seen one film by Conor Allyn, which was No Man’s Land, a film I recall being pretty solid, if not necessarily remarkable. This is his follow-up, and the trailer isn’t half-bad. It sets up a very clear divide between the believers and non-believers, or I guess, singular non-believer. I wonder how much it will lean into the ambiguity or if it will provide a definitive answer regarding what’s happening with this kid. Consider me intrigued.

In The Fire opens in select theaters and VOD platforms on October 13th.
