Ferrari

Yes, absolutely yes. I’ve been so excited about this since I first heard about the project coming to fruition. Michael Mann is one of the best in the game. Anything he makes is worth your attention. And this seems to have been a big passion project of his. The trailer is well put together, it’s a solid tease of what’s to come. I don’t know a ton about the story of Enzo Ferrari, but I am curious. Plus, you know the racing scenes are going to a blast to watch on the big screen. Can’t wait!

Ferrari hits theaters on December 25th.

May December

Interesting. I really like Todd Haynes as a filmmaker, so I’m always going to be on board for whatever he does, and I didn’t even realize he was working with Netflix for his next project. Even looking up the writer is interesting, he’s apparently made quite the name for himself as a casting director for a while now. I wonder if any of his skills in that department resulted in some of the casting choices here cause we do have a strong cast taking part. Either way, we don’t know a lot yet, the teaser definitely holds a lot back, but I like it, I can’t wait to see it.

May December opens in select theaters on November 17th before streaming on Netflix on December 1st.

Saltburn

I feel like a lot of folks turned on Emerald Fennell after Promising Young Woman was released, and to an extent, I can understand why. The film was not a straightforward revenge narrative that I think a lot of people were in the mood for, especially considering the state of things in the world. It’s a lot more messier, a lot more nuanced, a lot more complicated, and frankly, a lot more weirder than movies like that tend to be. I wrestled with that film a lot in my mind, and to me, that’s a good thing. So, if we’re getting more of that, I’m into it. As a teaser, this is really cool and engaging, and I have a ton of things in my head as to what this looks and feels like, but I think I’d rather save that surprise for the theater.

Saltburn hits select theaters on November 24th before expanding on December 1st.

Godzilla Minus One

Now this is awesome. I was honestly not as enamored with Shin Godzilla like a lot of folks were. I respect it, I admire it, I get what it was going for, and like that in theory, but in execution, it didn’t quite have me as engaged as I would hope. I did love all the actual Godzilla stuff though, and it looks like this movie is a lot more of that, which sounds fine to me. Takashi Yamazaki is a filmmaker I’ve been vaguely aware of, but I haven’t seen his work before, so I don’t know what to expect here, and that’s pretty cool.

Godzilla Minus One hits theaters on December 1st.

No One Will Save You

Spontaneous was one of my favorite films the year it came out, so if Brian Duffield has a new movie coming out, I want to see it. A little surprising cause I’m otherwise kinda so-so on his non-directed screenwriting projects, but hey, might as well save the coolest stuff for yourself, am I right? And wow, what a trailer, kind of one of those “how have we not gotten this idea before” type of movies, very cool way to approach aliens and home invasion thrillers. This honestly should be getting a theatrical run cause it looks like it would be killer with a crowd. But alas, the state of the industry being what it is, we’ll have to settle for streaming. I’ll be there day one.

No One Will Save You will premiere exclusively on Hulu on September 22nd.

What Happens Later

Who doesn’t love Meg Ryan, right? I actually haven’t seen her directorial debut, Ithaca, but this looks like it’s 100% her wheelhouse. It’s cool to see David Duchovny here, the two seem to be working pretty well with each other, capturing that awkward feeling of being stuck with someone you otherwise moved past in your life. The stuff with the announcer is…odd, I’m curious if the film has other heightened elements like that cause otherwise that would feel weird. But it’s not the end of the world, and it’s just a trailer, and a fairly charming one at that, if you like this kind of stuff, which I do.

What Happens Later opens in theaters on November 3rd.
