Dune: Part Two

Sure. I wasn’t particularly fond of Dune, but I am still intrigued for this new one. At the very least, we’ll have a complete story this time around, so maybe my feelings on the first will be more positive after seeing this. Don’t really have a lot to say as I don’t know much about this material, but yeah, it looks perfectly solid, I’m sure fans of the book are going to love it. I hope I enjoy it more this time.

Dune: Part Two hits theaters on November 3rd.

Gran Turismo

I totally forgot Neill Blomkamp was doing a Gran Turismo movie. Honestly, after his last film, maybe he couldn’t use a decent for-hire gig. And honestly, this doesn’t look half bad. It helps that it’s not adapting the game so much as forming a story around it, and I guess it’s based on a true story as well. I feel like I would’ve heard about something this ludicrous. Looks solid enough, you officially have my curiosity.

Gran Turismo races into theaters on August 11th.

The Hunger Games: The Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes

I guarantee you anyone who goes to the box office to buy a ticket will only call this “The Hunger Games,” no one’s gonna say this whole ridiculous title. Anyways, I thought the previous films were pretty good, easily the best among the whole young adult adaptation phase that Hollywood went through. But this trailer isn’t inspiring a ton of confidence. I’m just not that invested in the political inner-workings of this world outside of the context of the characters that we have previously been following. Maybe the movie will hold up well for people who aren’t huge fans, we’ll see.

The Hunger Games: The Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes opens in theaters on November 17th.

Maggie Moore(s)

A so-so trailer, but I can see the potential in it. I don’t recall much from John Slattery’s directorial debut, God’s Pocket, another crime mystery type story, but I don’t think I was particularly impressed with it. This does seem to be more comedic, so maybe that will make things easier to vibe with. I do like the cast here, and the premise is intriguing enough. I’ll have to keep my eye out for this.

Maggie Moore(s) hits select theaters and VOD platforms on June 16th.

Wish

I didn’t have any strong reactions when Disney first announced this, but now that there’s a trailer out, I’m a lot more curious. I really like the animation style here, it’s an interesting look, and pretty different from what we’ve been getting from both Disney as well as some of the wilder Sony Animation stuff. It’s also nice to see an original fairy tale that harkens back to Disney films of old. I hope they retain that spirit while still pushing things forward into fresh territory.

Wish hits theaters on November 22nd.

Twisted Metal

I haven’t played a ton of Twisted Metal when I was young, but I did dabble on occasion. I forgot this was even a thing, but from the little bit that we see here, it looks pretty close to the vibe of the game. Though, clearly not as polished as something like Gran Turismo, you can feel that TV budget being stretched here. But as long as it’s fun, it doesn’t really matter. And considering the first episode is directed by Kitao Sakurai, mostly known for his work on The Eric Andre Show and directing Bad Trip, this might end up being a good time.

Twisted Metal premieres exclusively on Peacock July 27th.
