Dual
This is the latest film from Riley Stearns, and I’ve actually seen this film just a few days ago. Sadly, I am still under embargo, so I can’t say how I felt about it, but I will say I am excited to share my thoughts on this one in my review, I’ll have more to say then.
Dual hits select theaters on April 15th and VOD platforms and AMC+ on May 20th.
The Sea Beast
Chris Williams has a pretty great track record in the world of animation, so I’m definitely curious to see how he does on a solo outing with Netflix. You can definitely see that Disney vibe that he’s been on for most of his career, but it looks like it might be more interesting than your typical Disney fare. Obviously, the animation looks amazing, those water simulations are wild. Plus, I like a good pirate-esque adventure.
The Sea Beast hits Netflix on July 8th.
Choose Or Die
This looks pretty cool. Netflix films tend to be pretty hit-and-miss, especially when they aren’t ones coming from already established filmmakers. But this one has a nice vibe to it, and it doesn’t have that “Netflix look,” if you know what I mean. Apparently, Robert Englund is in this, but I don’t think I caught him anywhere in the trailer, but at least that gives me something to look forward to. The premise seems interesting, and I’m curious if they’ll try to explain the mechanics of how this all works, or keep it a mystery. I’m eager to find out.

Minions: The Rise Of Gru
I honestly forgot this film existed, I think I may have assumed this already came out, but apparently not. I guess I’ll start off by saying I didn’t dislike the first Minions. Yes, some moments were certainly irritating, but I liked the emphasis on slapstick and having comedy beats with little dialogue. I wouldn’t call it great, but I had a decent enough time. This trailer features one hell of a “Lose Yourself” remix. The film itself looks fine, I guess. Had a couple chuckles. I recognize Michelle Yeoh’s voice, so that’s pretty exciting. Other than that, not much to really get into.
Minions: The Rise Of Gru will open in theaters on July 1st.
Petite Maman
Hey! This is finally coming out! In case you missed it, this was on my 50 Films I Loved in 2021 list. I thought it was a terrific and emotionally meaningful film that packs a lot within its fairly short runtime. It’s really touching and beautiful, and I can’t say enough good things about it, just check it out if it’ playing near you!
Petite Maman hits select theaters on April 22nd.
All My Puny Sorrows
Definitely has the vibe of being based off a book, I can practically see the words on the page. I think this trailer is fairly well put together, and while it may look like it was made with a low budget, clearly there was enough passion involved to attract some recognizable actors here. Not familiar with this director, this seems to be the most high profile thing he’s done. I’m usually pretty iffy on films about suicide, I find that a lot of films don’t really handle the subject with as much delicacy as it needs, but I’m usually willing to give things a shot. This doesn’t look bad, I’ll try to keep an eye out for it.
