Devotion

Even before i saw the trailer, I was hyped for this. This is new film, and by far the biggest, from director, J.D. Dillard, who made Sleight and Sweetheart. Both of which are great, but I especially loved Sleight. It also helps you got two killer leads in Jonathan Majors and Glen Powell, the latter of whom already nearly stole the show with Top Gun: Maverick. I only know minor details about this story, so it’ll be interesting to see more of it, and I hope they keeps things true to the experiences of these guys. It looks pretty solid from what I see here, keeping my fingers crossed for this one.

Devotion hits theaters on October 14th.

Pinocchio

How wild is it that a Robert Zemeckis directed Pinocchio movie will be going straight to streaming as opposed to theaters? I mean, say what you will about his work, but you wouldn’t say they aren’t big screen worthy. I actually liked a lot of his more recent output compared to most folks, so I’m probably more excited for this as a Zemeckis film than a new Pinocchio film. I do like the original quite a bit, but I haven’t seen it in a while, only certain moments have stuck with me, and I couldn’t really tell you exactly what happens on an A to B to C level. I’m curious to see what changes will be made here. At least the cast is solid.

Pinocchio streams exclusively on Disney+ on September 8th.

Mr. Malcolm’s List

This looks amusing. The revenge scheme, if you even wanna call it that, feels a bit tame, and once that gets brought up, it’s easy to see where this is all going to go. I don’t think that’s inherently bad, but it would make things easier to swallow if there were something fresh to this, which I don’t really see. At least, not in this trailer. It looks fine, if not really my cup of tea.

Mr. Malcolm’s List will open in theaters on July 1st.

Murina

Yeah, I can totally buy the fact that women get so horny by the mere sight of Cliff Curtis that it tears families apart. You have me. I’m sold. But in all seriousness, this does look pretty intriguing. Scorcese tends to attach himself to some very interesting foreign films, often really good ones, or at least ones that are worth your attention for one reason or another. I’m curious enough to check this out.

Murina will open in select theaters on July 8th.

Willow

Willow is a film I had not seen in a long time, but I imagine it holds up reasonably well as a solid family adventure film. Can’t say I had any strong feelings about it, and the same kind of applies to this trailer. It looks fine, but nothing about it is making me super excited to dive back into this world. Maybe I should watch the original again, and see if I feel any different. Though, it is nice to see Warwick Davis continue to get work.

Willow will stream on Disney+ starting November 30th.

Andor

I am not a huge fan of Rogue One, and the character of Cassian Andor did not leave a huge impression on me, in fact, none of the characters did. However, after seeing this trailer, I’m more open to the idea of a show about this guy, and presumably, the people he surrounds himself with. I think I’m also just happy to see a Star Wars thing that doesn’t mostly take place on a desert planet. I’m digging the variety of different locations, and the look into the politics of the Empire and how the rebellion works on a logistical level. All cool stuff that I think Rogue One only ever hinted at or discussed in broad strokes. I doubt this will go as dark as it probably should, but I hope it’s a good time.

Andor will stream on Disney+ starting August 31st.
