Cyrano
I didn’t realize this was going to be a musical. I suppose that’s one way of differentiating this from all the other countless adaptations of this story. Hell, I think The Half Of It from last year was one of the best versions of this. The songs honestly aren’t doing much for me, but maybe they’ll work better in context. After all, I can’t just dismiss anything from Joe Wright, the guy knows how to take a swing, and even if it’s a miss, there’s usually something interesting to discuss afterwards. This isn’t one I’m highly anticipating, but I will check it out.
Cyrano is scheduled for theaters on December 31st.
Red Rocket
Yeah, I’m sold, this looks really cool, Simon Rex looks like he’s really delivering, and Sean Baker sure knows how to make one pretty looking film. You can definitely tell it’s one of his given the color palette, the slice of life vibes, and apparent use of non professional actors throughout. I dig what this is selling me, and I can’t wait to check it out.
Red Rocket will hit theaters on December 3rd.
Wolf
There’s definitely some cool and interesting ideas here, but it will depend on how it’s all executed. I haven’t seen this director’s prior work, so I wouldn’t know what to expect. This feels like something that could come across unintentionally funny if the craft isn’t precise enough. I’m definitely curious, but I probably won’t be in a rush to see it.

Hypnotic
It’s great to see Kate Siegel play lead roles in projects that aren’t done by Mike Flanagan, too bad this is the kind of stuff that’s getting her. OK, to be fair, it doesn’t look that bad, but it does have that vibe that a lot of Netflix’s more disposable genre fare tends to have. There is a potentially fun idea at the center of this, but I guess we’ll just have to wait and see if it turns out any good.
Hypnotic hits Netflix on October 27th.
Bad Luck Banging Or Loony Porn
Well, this certainly has the most memorable title of the year, and the film itself doesn’t look half bad. I was fairly amused by it, though some of its more overt stylistic flourishes did give me a bit of pause, and not in a way that I found charming. Still, this does look like a ton of fun, and the jokes seem to land for the most part. There’s potential for some really smart and effective commentary here. Consider me intrigued.

Rocky IV: Rocky Vs. Drago
I gotta say, when Stallone said he had his own #SnyderCut of Rocky IV, I didn’t think anything would come of it. But look at where we are now. Not sure why they made the trailer in such a way that it gives so much away, but I guess anyone interested has already seen it. Rocky IV is definitely one of the lesser Rocky films for me, but it has its charms. I’m definitely curious to see what was added in this new cut, and if it does anything that could possibly make for a better film as a whole.
Rocky IV: Rocky Vs. Drago will play in theaters for one night via Fathom Events on November 11th.
