Crimes Of The Future

I’ve been so excited for David Cronenberg’s return to body horror, and it looks like he’s back with a vengeance. Sure, his son really impressed with Possessor, but this is going to be the pure Cronenberg we’ve been waiting for. The visuals in this teaser alone are awesome and weird and gross, and everything you’d want from this. I can’t wait to see more.

Crimes Of The Future will hit theaters at a currently unspecified date in June.

Official Competition

Penélope Cruz’s hair in this is doing…so much. I love it. I was initially worried this would be too in-jokey, appealing to only the most in-the-know cinephiles, but it was actually pretty consistently funny to me. Pretty ironic that this didn’t end up going to Official Competition at Cannes. Anyway, not super familiar with filmmakers, Gastón Duprat & Mariano Cohn, but this looks fun, and I’m definitely interested in checking this out.

Official Competition hits select theaters on June 17th.

Benediction

Wow, it really has been over five years since Terence Davies’ last film. I really enjoy the films of his that I’ve seen, so I’m sold on whatever he has coming. His films are so rich and layered and subtle, yet effortlessly watchable. I don’t see why this would be any different. I haven’t heard much of Siegfried Sassoon, but I’m very curious to learn more about him, and how his story is told here.

Benediction opens in theaters on June 3rd.

Poser

This looks very promising. Some of the blurbs here keep describing this as a thriller, and I’m not really seeing that, but I guess that’s just how the trailer is cut. It feels more atmospheric than anything else. I do like what I see here though, it looks gorgeous, the premise seems interesting, and I’m curious at how it comments on music and art and art culture. Gonna keep my eye out for this one.

Poser opens in select theaters on June 3rd before expanding starting June 17th.

In Front Of Your Face

Hong Sang-soo just doesn’t rest, doesn’t he? I feel like he’s made a new film every year for almost a decade now. Not a ton to say about this one, it’s not the kind of trailer that meant to evoke super strong reactions, which is fine. It looks solid, the word on it seems very good, and given the talent behind, it’s probably gonna be at the very least, pretty good.

In Front Of Your Face opens in select theaters starting on May 6th.

Sexual Drive

Alright, sure, that could be fun. Haven’t seen a  Kôta Yoshida film, so not entirely sure what to expect here, but this looks pretty wacky and pervy, a glorious but oh so rare combination. Not a ton of trailers this week, so I figured I’d throw this in to spice things up. We don’t get a lot of sex comedies here in the States anymore, which is a bit of a bummer, so I guess if that’s an itch that needs scratching, this just might do it for you.

Sexual Drive hits virtual cinemas and VOD platforms on April 22nd.

Thoughts on any of the trailers? Feel free to discuss in the comments!
