Clemency
I remember seeing people rave about this during Sundance, especially in regards to Alfre Woodard’s performance. I can certainly see it, she looks fantastic in this. It’s definitely heavy material, but there could be something really interesting explored here. A lot of good people are involved, so this certainly has my attention.
Clemency opens in theaters on December 27th.
In The Shadow Of The Moon
I haven’t seen everything from Jim Mickle, but I adored Cold In July so much anything he does is going to be on my radar. This looks really cool. I can’t say I fully grasped what was happening, but it looked neat, and it’s got some actors I like. I like stories that blend multiple genres into something distinct, and it doesn’t look like Netflix skimped on the budget. I can’t wait to see it.

Dark Waters
Oh, man….I have a bad feeling about this. The last time Mark Ruffalo played a character going against a member of the Du Pont Family, things did not end very well. If you haven’t seen Foxcatcher (which, going by the box office numbers, you likely didn’t), then you’re not gonna get that reference, but you should watch it, it’s really good. And so does this, which isn’t too surprising cause of Todd Haynes directing, even if it seems out of his usual wheelhouse. Plus, Ruffalo’s always great, and the cast is pretty stacked, I’m very into this.
Dark Waters will hit theaters on November 22nd.
The Rhythm Section
I mean…this could go either way. It could be a fun action movie, or it could be a morose and self-serious exercise that doesn’t embrace its inherently schlocky nature. I don’t know, but I like these actors, and Reed Morano is a heck of a talent, so I’m in. I’m usually in for junky action movies, so this seems right up my alley.
The Rhythm Section will be released on January 31st.
In The Tall Grass
Vincenzo Natali, who made Cube and Splice, tackling a Stephen King (and King’s son, Joe Hill) book? Sounds good to me. This looks really interesting. Lots of surreal imagery, a fun premise, and a mustachioed Patrick Wilson on top of all that. Seems compelling enough to me, I’m curious to see if it all comes together.

Living With Yourself
I have to be honest, when I saw that it was a series, and not a feature, I was kind of disappointed. And not just because I’m typically lazy with catching up on all the TV that I’m interested in seeing, but just because this premise doesn’t seem to warrant the length that a whole series would give. It seems like one of those offbeat comedies that would’ve come out in the early 2000s after the success of stuff like Being John Malkovich, or really anything penned by Charlie Kaufman. This does look good, and Paul Rudd never ceases to delight, so this is something I’ll try to check out.
Living With Yourself hits Netflix on October 18th.
