Brightburn
I’ve seen a few people talking about how doing a “what if Superman, but evil” is not the kind of thing we need right now, but…this just looks so cool, I’m sorry. I’m down for anything James Gunn is involved in, even if he’s just producing (though it is written by a brother and a cousin of his), and this clearly has his playful fingerprints all over. The level to which this plays off the Man of Steel imagery is an inspired level of trolling. Will it be good? I don’t know, I hope so.
Brightburn will hit theaters May 24th, 2019.
Triple Frontier
“You got your cartel movie in my heist movie!” “And you got your heist movie in my cartel movie!” Not much else to say aside from this looks badass, and even though I didn’t love A Most Violent Year, J.C. Chandor is totally the bee’s knees, and I’ll watch whatever he makes. The cast is awesome, I like a good heist movie, and considering the many years of troubled production, delays, and recasting this went through, I really want this to work out.
Triple Frontier will open in select theaters and Netflix on an unspecified date in March of 2019.
A Shaun The Sheep Movie: Farmageddon
The first Shaun The Sheep movie was one of my favorite films of 2015. I’ve watched it many times, and it has never ceased to delight me the entire way through. I’m so glad that Aardman Animations is making another one. I’m beyond excited for more Shaun the Sheep.
A Shaun The Sheep Movie: Farmageddon will open in theaters on May 15th, 2019.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters
Yeah, this looks awesome. The initial comic-con trailer is superior, but this still kicks an absurd amount of ass. I want this in my veins now.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters will be unleashed on May 31st, 2019.
An Acceptable Loss
I like the idea of this a lot, but man, it sure looks like something that was funded with money made from the neighborhood lemonade stand. I don’t want to be too mean about it, if it’s really good, I can overlook some shoddy production values, but even on that level, it doesn’t look like it will dig as deep into its interesting ideas as it should.
An Acceptable Loss hits select cinemas as VOD platforms on January 18th, 2019.
Umbrella Academy
Huh, so that’s what the comic from the My Chemical Romance guy is about. I’m intrigued. The trailer is a tad sloppy, and throws a lot of information at you in an almost comical way, but still…intrigued. I like the X-Men-esque (or should I say, Esque-Men…sorry) set up, and I like the cast they have assembled here. It looks neat, I’ll definitely give it a chance.
Umbrella Academy will begin streaming on Netflix on February 15th, 2019.
