Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker

Yup. Looks good. That’s it. That’s all I got to say. I hope it turns out well.

Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker hits theaters on December 20th.

Bloodshot

I haven’t read the comic, so I had no idea what to expect from this, but this looks really fun. The premise is a cool twist on the revenge genre, the action looks delightfully dopey. Vin Diesel is…well, he’s being Vin Diesel, which is fine with me. It just looks like a good time, and as long as the filmmakers know exactly what they’re doing with material like this, I can see this turning out pretty cool.

Bloodshot opens in theaters on February 21, 2020.

Let It Snow

This looks cute. Netflix has done a pretty decent job with some of their rom-coms like Always Be My Maybe and teen movies like To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, and this looks to be another solid addition to that group. I like a lot of the cast here, it looks well made, and I’m usually a sucker for these kinds of movies anyway. Plus, I imagine this will be a nice way to get into the holiday season. Hope it’s good.

Let It Snow will be available on Netflix on November 8th.

Les Misérables

Wow, that looks riveting. I’ve heard about this a couple times this past year from its festival run, and word-of-mouth has been really good. The powers that be in France must think so as well because this was chosen as their submission for the next Academy Awards. It looks really compelling, and it could offer some interesting insight into the 2005 riots that might not be as easily understood by someone who lives across the pond like me. I’m looking forward to this one.

Les Misérables will release in theaters on January 10th, 2020.

Antlers

I was pretty much sold by the teaser, so I didn’t even need this, but yeah, this is a really well done trailer. I mentioned before that I’m not a big fan of Scott Cooper, but I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt since his sensibilities as a filmmaker might work better for genre stuff like this instead of the more respectable prestige fare he’s been known for. Plus, the involvement of Guillermo del Toro as a producer also inspires some confidence, and I’m just digging the vibes of these trailers, so I’m pretty excited.

Antlers opens in theaters on April 17th, 2020.

Burden

So…there’s nothing inherently wrong with the message of this movie, in fact, I’d say the message is not only a good one, it’s essential. However, it seems like there is always a push for movies about the redemption for people like white supremacists, and they often soften the damage that they have done in the first place. There is always a weird emphasis placed on the black community to go high when the other side goes low, which – again – not a bad message, but at a point, it’s like…who is this for, and what do you think you’ll accomplish with this? I don’t know, maybe the movie is more insightful than I’m giving it credit for. I’d like to be wrong, but if I don’t see another movie like this in a while after this, I probably won’t miss it.

Burden hits theaters on February 28th.

Adopt A Highway

This is written and directed by Upgrade star, Logan Marshall-Green, and it looks pretty good. Ethan Hawke is one of my favorite actors, the story is intriguing, and I’m already endeared by his character’s interactions with the baby. It just seems like a simple story, but a simple one that – if done well – can be a very moving experience. I know Hawke is capable of it, but is Logan Marshall-Green able to pull it off? I’m looking forward to see if he can.

Adopt A Highway opens in select theaters and VOD platforms on November 1st.
