Black Widow
Yep, this looks pretty good. The family dynamic is really interesting to me, the action looks solid, even if that last bit looked a bit over-the-top. It’s honestly good that we had such a long break since the last MCU film. The wait makes these feel a bit more special, even though that won’t be the case after next year given all the movies and the stuff they’re putting out on Disney+. Anyway, this looks good.
Black Widow hits theaters on May 1st, 2020.
No Time To Die
I’m mostly a casual Bond fan. I’ve seen and enjoyed many of them, but I can’t say I have any strong connection to them. Regardless, this still looks pretty cool. I’m intrigued by Lashana Lynch’s character, and I’m interested in seeing how Cary Fukunaga handles this kind of material. It looks exciting, and seems to bring the Daniel Craig films to a fitting conclusion, so consider me curious.
No Time To Die opens in theaters on April 8th, 2020.
Three Christs
This has one hell of a premise, I’m surprised I haven’t heard of this story, but it makes me curious to check it out, and find more information about it. The movie itself looks fine, I’m mostly into it because of the actors involved, though I’m not super sold on the tone of this trailer, which has a very prestige vibe going on. Could just be an iffy trailer that doesn’t reflect the film, but I’m still interested in seeing this.
Three Christs opens in select theaters and VOD platforms on January 10th.
Troop Zero
That looks super cute. Mckenna Grace is one of the better young actors out there. She’s spectacular in everything I’ve seen her in, even in films that weren’t particularly good. I like the throwback qualities of this, like one of those classic underdog movies that we don’t see get made with this kind of earnestness anymore. I’m looking forward to checking this out.
Troop Zero hits Amazon Prime on January 17th.
Mulan
A witch? OK, so this isn’t necessarily a grounded take on the story. A bit bummed out, but not that surprised. Her character does stand out considering there doesn’t seem to be any other fantastical element, but we’ll see how it plays out in the actual film. It does look pretty good, though, I wonder if people are suddenly fine with this after Yifei Liu made those not-so-great comments about the Hong Kong protests.
Mulan will open in theaters on March 27th, 2020.
Invisible Life
I love the look of this film, the use of color especially is astounding and vibrant. I’m a bit surprised this hasn’t been on my radar already as one of the foreign films being championed by the other critics I follow. Regardless, I’m sold on this. It looks like a compelling look at sisterhood, and the performances look great. I’m looking forward to this one.
Invisible Life will be released in select theaters on December 20th.
Togo
Hey, at least the dog in this trailer isn’t completely CG like in that Harrison Ford movie. Honestly, as soon as Willem Dafoe said “dogs are my business,” I was already into it. I’m a sucker for dog movies, so this is definitely something I will be seeing when it’s out. Plus, it’s about time that Balto stopped sucking up all the recognition for that serum run.
Togo hits Disney+ on December 20th.
The Whistlers
A bunch of criminals using whistling to communicate? Sounds like fun to me. This looks really cool and stylish. I’m not super familiar with the director, but I’m very much intrigued by what I saw here. It looks like one hell of a ride.
The Whistlers opens in theaters on February 28th, 2020.
