Atlas

Looks pretty cool. Apparently, it’s another AI gone bad story based on the little plot synopsis on IMDb, which is kinda whatever, but it does look pretty cool, the VFX looks solid. Brad Peyton isn’t a bad filmmaker by any stretch, and I love me some mech action. I’m not gonna expect much because this is Netflix, and their stuff can be very hit-and-miss, but I hope this scratches an itch for cool sci-fi.

Atlas will stream exclusively on Netflix on May 24th.

Ezra

Looks like a pretty by-the-numbers dramedy, I feel like I’ve seen a million of these. I don’t think I’ve seen any movies directed by Tony Goldwyn, I could be wrong, but it does look well made, and the actors involved seem to be giving it their all, especially Bobby Cannavale, who I think is really due for a role like this instead of his usual stuff. This could be pretty good, but we’ll just have to wait and see.

Ezra hits theaters on May 31st.

Wildcat

Ethan Hawke directing his daughter, this should be really interesting. I am not too familiar with the life of Flannery O’Connor, so I’m hoping this might provide some insight and perspective into her experience. I am really fascinated by the visual style, it’s kind of gritty, but also dreamlike, and there’s this slight distance that the camera has from its subjects, not a ton of close-ups, plus the occasional surrealist flourish, it looks really cool. This is one I’ll be keeping my eye out for.

Wildcat opens in select theaters starting May 3rd.

Arcadian

Is it…werewolves? I’m not entirely sure what this big threat is. I don’t know why you’d even want to keep that a secret in your marketing, but whatever. It does look pretty cool. I love me some Nic Cage, and seeing him in this context looks very promising. It’s also from the director of The Trust, also featuring Nicolas Cage, and I liked that film a lot, so if this is anywhere close to that, I’m very excited to see what he has in store.

Arcadian hits select theaters on April 12th.

Parachute

I feel like Kid Cudi is way too old to be hanging out with all these seemingly 20-somethings, I don’t know why, I thought seeing him here was kinda funny. But anyway, this looks pretty good. It’s the directorial debut from Brittany Snow, and I’m excited to see what she has here. It seems like a very personal story, and the actors involved are solid, even if I’m not that big on Thomas Mann. But it looks very real and honest and raw, and I feel like we don’t have a lot of great movies about dealing with eating disorders, so maybe this will change that.

Parachute opens in theaters on April 5th.

The People’s Joker

I’ve been hearing about this for such a long time, and I gotta say, this is not at all what I had pictured in my head, and I don’t mean that in a bad way. I kinda dig the hyper-stylized look, with different mediums like animation coming into play. It’s really interesting and wild. I’m glad this is finally getting released. I can’t wait to see it, and see what the fuss is all about.

The People’s Joker opens in select theaters starting April 5th before expanding in the following weeks.
