A Quiet Place Part II
I liked A Quiet Place a lot, even if it ultimately feels a bit light. There’s something to be said about how efficient and complete it felt, which makes the idea of a sequel sound weird. This is a really good trailer, but it does feel like it’s falling into generic post-apocalyptic territory, especially with that whole bit at the end about some people not being worth saving. I swear, if anyone says something to the effect of how “people are the real monsters,” I am going to roll my eyes really hard. But I’ll give this the benefit of the doubt. Krasinski is clearly capable behind the camera, and I’m curious to see what he pulls off this time.
A Quiet Place Part II will hit theaters on March 20th.
Downhill
Force Majeure was fantastic, and I don’t see a whole lot of value in remaking it since Americanizing it wouldn’t really add much to the story that wasn’t already present in the original. This feels purely for the “I hate subtitles” crowd, but this does look like it captures the essence of what made the original work, even if it’s a bit more broad in its humor, which was to be expected. The cast looks good, and the gag at the end made me chuckle. I’ll be cautiously optimistic about this.
Downhill opens in theaters on February 14th.
Come To Daddy
Yeah, I’m very intrigued by this. The setup is promising, the cast looks great, and Elijah Wood has been on the forefront of bringing inventive and cool genre movies out to the world, either through his acting or producing. There’s not a whole lot to get out of this since it doesn’t give too much away, but I’m very interested. Can’t wait to see it.

The Climb
This looks very good. There’s a very down-to-Earth quality to this that you don’t see in a lot of mainstream American comedies. It certainly helps that the cast seems to be made up of largely unknowns. There’s a lot you can explore when it comes to male friendships, especially ones that aren’t the most healthy relationships. If explored in an honest, empathetic way, the results can be pretty intense and powerful. I’m curious to see what these folks do here.

The Gentlemen
Still into it. I haven’t looked at the early reviews for this yet, so I don’t know what the word-of-mouth is on this yet, but I’m hoping this is classic Guy Ritchie. It certainly looks and feels like it. If there’s anyone who knows how to make movies about quirky, violent Brits, it’s Guy Ritchie. Keeping my fingers crossed that this one’s good.
The Gentlemen opens in theaters on January 24th.
Faith Based
We’re a bit low on trailers, so I figured I’d include this, even though it doesn’t have distribution yet. I’ve been excited for this project for a while since the idea has a ton of potential, and this comes from someone who has seen way too many Christian movies. They tend to be pretty wild, and ripe for lampooning. I like the cast here a lot, and this is certainly a fun way to present a “trailer” for a comedy like this. I hope this turns out well.
Faith Based premieres at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival on January 18th, news on distribution will likely come after.
