65

One, man it is so nice to finally see a dinosaur related blockbuster that isn’t from the Jurassic Park franchise, I can’t fathom why they’ve had such a monopoly on it. Two, I appreciate how straightforward and no bs this plot seems to be. And three, I dug A Quiet Place, and those writers’ previous film, Haunt, was a solid little slasher, so I think there’s some potential here. Driver is a great actor, and it will be fun to see him in something that is kinda trashy and fun. Count me in.

65 hits theaters on March 10th, 2023.

Infinity Pool

All I knew about this beforehand was that it’s directed by Brandon Cronenberg, who made one of my favorite films of 2020 with Possessor, and that this is apparently more extreme because it had to get edited down to an R from an NC-17, which Possessor somehow didn’t have to deal with, so I can only imagine this will be absolutely bananas, and I’m excited to see what Brandon going bananas looks like.

Infinity Pool opens in theaters on January 27th, 2023.

Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse

Man, looking at something like this compared to the visuals of the MCU SpiderMan movies, it’s like…why even bother at this point? The first Spider-Verse is an all-timer, and I don’t really have much reason to believe that this one can’t hit those same highs, unless things really go south, but it all still looks great to me. I don’t think I can get enough of this style.

Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse hits theaters on June 2nd, 2023.

The Price We Pay

Gotta say, I was pleasantly surprised by this trailer. Starts off rough, like one of those generic crime thrillers, and then all of a sudden, heaps of gore. Love it. I looked it up, and it’s directed by Ryuhei Kitamura of The Midnight Meat Train and Godzilla: Final Wars fame. The effects here are pretty great, and I like the idea of robbers stumbling into a slasher. There’s some potential here. Hope it’s as fun as the trailer lets on.

The Price We Pay will debut in select theaters and VOD platforms on January 13th, 2023.

Skinamarink

This one has apparently been getting a ton of online buzz recently. Haven’t heard much about this personally, but this trailer is pretty creepy. I love the old school vibe it has going on, even down to the 1973/2023 glitch at the end. I wonder how true to the film the trailer is because if it is all abstract atmospherics, then I don’t see a ton of success for the film, in terms of reaching a wide audience, though it could gain a cult following. Will definitely check this out.

Skinamarink opens in select theaters on January 13th before streaming on Shudder at a later unspecified date.

Alcarràs

This is Spain’s submission for the Oscars, and it looks to be a fairly compelling portrait of a family going through a crisis. I don’t think I have gone around to seeing Summer 1993, but based on word-of-mouth alone, it seems like Carla Simón is a talent to watch. Not much else to say, the trailer seems fairly straightforward enough. This is one I’ll try to catch up on before I finalize my list for 2022.

Alcarràs will be released in theaters on January 6th.
