2019 isn’t quite done with us yet, as much as we might want it to be. It’s been a great year for movies, but the time has now come to arbitrarily award a select few, some deserving, others maybe not so much. And those are your nominees for the Oscars this year! Not a ton of surprises here, if you’ve been following the trajectory this awards season. I am happy to see Klaus on here, the inclusion of Corpus Christi – a film I haven’t even heard of, much less seen – in the Best International Film category is a bit out-of-nowhere, lack of a lot of women and people of color is disappointing, 1917 getting nominated for its screenplay gives me pause, and I can’t say Joker deserves anywhere near the number of nominations it ended up getting, but whatever. It is what it is.
