So, not a lot of surprises. I feel like most of these we saw coming given how the rest of awards season has gone. The few that I would have missed in an Oscar pool would have been a case where the winners were a toss up, and that seemed to be the situation in a number of categories. Is this what I would’ve liked, not really. I wasn’t as enamored with EEAAO, but I respect it, I did enjoy it OK, it just didn’t do a lot for me, but I am still happy a movie as weird as that, featuring a fight scene with a dude who has a trophy up his butt, managed to do a near total sweep at such a prestigious award show.

There were lots of firsts here, first Black woman to now have multiple Oscars, first Asian for Best Actress, also the second woman of color to win in that category, first being Halle Berry from Monster’s Ball. First Indian production to win an Oscar, first Indian film to win an Oscar for Best Song. And others, I’m sure.

Honestly, the only thing I was interested in was the “Naatu Naatu” performance, and definitely lived up to the hype.

Not a lot to be mad about. I think most of the winners are deserved, even if they weren’t my personal picks. Only a couple seemed egrigious or baffling. What little I saw of the ceremony does make it look like a better broadcast overall, at least compared to some of the more recent ones. But I’m glad awards season is finally over. I look forward to not thinking about it again until next year.
