It was reported earlier today on Indiewire that It: Chapter 2 will begin principal photography in July. The director of the first film, Andrés Muschietti, is returning to direct this, and he brings with him a past star of his, Jennifer Chastain, (who was in his debut film, Mama) to play Beverly.
It looks like more news is coming out already on the developing sequel, as The Hollywood Reporter just posted an article stating that Bill Hader and James McAvoy are in talks to join! Here’s some more info:
“If deals make, McAvoy would play the role of the adult Bill Denbrough, the unofficial leader of the group of kids nicknamed the Losers Club and who grows up to be a successful author. When he returns to face his past, his old stutter resurfaces. Jaeden Lieberher played the character in the first movie.
Hader will play the adult Richie Tozier, the jokester who grows up to be a DJ. Finn Wolfhard played the character in the first installment.”
I’ve heard Bill Hader’s name get thrown around by many fancasts, but James McAvoy is very unexpected (in a good way, mind you). Both of these are really great choices.
I liked It, but didn’t love it. Most of my appreciation for the film was mainly because of the kids, who were all likable and effortlessly endearing. I’m worried I won’t be as interested when I see the adult versions of those characters, but I’m totally willing to give this a chance, especially if the casting for the Losers Club is as cool as this development implies.
It: Chapter 2 will be released in theaters on Sept. 6, 2019.
