Y2K

This looks fun. Definitely a lighter kind of movie compared to a lot of A24’s films, and it’s cool to see Kyle Mooney behind the camera. It has a very sweet vibe, kind of like that one other movie he was involved with, Brigsby Bear. There’s a bit of Joe Dante here, which is really cool, I like that vibe. Yeah, not a whole lot to say, it looks like a good time.

Y2K hits select theaters on December 6th.

Azrael

Very much on board for this! I feel like it’s been a while since I’ve seen Samara Weaving in anything, so I’m glad to see her leading a genre film again. And I like that this is seemingly going to be a silent kind of movie. I feel like we’ve been getting quite a few movies like this recently between No One Will Save You and Silent Night, or even Hundreds Of Beavers. I like that films like this are coming out more, and I hope this is just as compelling as those movies. Considering this is from the director of Cheap Thrills, I would certainly hope so.

Azrael hits select theaters on September 27th.

The Room Next Door

I’m a little surprised it’s taken this long for Pedro Almodóvar to make his feature English language debut. Obviously, he’s done shorts recently, but even then. But granted, he’s been doing so well with his native tongue, I don’t think he needs to make an English movie unless he really feels like he has something he can bring to it, and I guess he does with this. Not a whole lot to get out of this, but I like the actors involved, Almodóvar is a reliable artist, I will be looking forward to this.

The Room Next Door opens in select theaters on December 20th.

Sleep

So this filmmaker Jason Yu was an assistant director on Okja, which explains the Bong Joon-ho connection with his quote. And it definitely looks promising. It will be nice to see a performance from the late Lee Sun-kyun. I know there is some mild controversy regarding his death, but I haven’t looked too much into it yet. The guy has a lot of talent, and it’s sad that we lost him. But this movie looks like it’s giving him quite a lot to do, and I can’t wait to see it.

Sleep hits select theaters and VOD platforms on September 27th.

Here After

Connie Britton I think is a pretty underrated actor. She’s always delivering, even when playing relatively small, supporting roles. So, it’s nice to see her take a lead in something, even if it seems to be a fairly disposable horror movie. I guess it’s a possession movie based on the vibes here. This is directed by Robert Salerno, who has only produced a bunch of films up until this point. So, I guess we’ll see if he’s got the chops.

Here After opens in select theaters and VOD platforms on September 13th.

Wildwood

Yes, not really a trailer, but I’m just so glad that we’re getting a new film from Laika. The artistry in their work is astounding and beyond impressive, and I’ve been hoping that they had something in the works. Their movies don’t often make a ton of money, so the fact that they’re still around makes me feel really good. The animation space definitely feels like it’s missing something when they don’t have anything coming out. Very excited, even if we still got a lot of time to wait for it.

Wildwood will be released in theaters on a currently unspecified date in 2025.
