Trailer Talk: X, Bigbug, and more!

X

Hell, yes! I’ve been wondering when we were gonna get a new Ti West joint! I really dig that guy’s filmography, and his style of slow burn horror really does it for me. This looks like a ton of fun, and pretty different from the more moody and ambiguous horror films that A24 tends to put out, which I’m honestly really happy about. This is gonna be high on my must-see list, I can’t wait.

X hits theaters on March 18th.

Bigbug

It’s been forever since we’ve gotten a new Jean-Pierre Jeunet, so this is a film that is going to be pretty high on my list of anticipated films. I didn’t even know he had something in the works with Netflix, so this is a pleasant surprise. I kinda wished the story was something more interesting and original than just another “robots wanting to destroy humanity” thing, but Jeunet’s voice is so distinct and his vision so wild that I’m sure I’ll still have a good time with it.

Bigbug will be available to stream on Netflix on February 11th.

The Fallout

Man, between the new Scream, X, this, and that Tim Burton Wednesday series for Netflix, this is one hell of a year for Jenna Ortega. This looks pretty good. Not a lot to really dig into, it all seems pretty straightforward, and in a good way, showing struggles that a lot of kids face these days, and how they respond to certain situations and circumstances. Basic, but exactly the kind of thing that, if done well, makes movies like these so effective. I’ll keep an eye out for this.

The Fallout hits HBO Max on January 27th.

Last Looks

I guess we’re at a point where it’s clear that Mel Gibson is here to stay whether folks like it or not. What sucks is that the projects that he gets involved with are usually pretty good, and…yeah, I think this looks pretty good. A quirky, Hollywood set detective story with Charlie Hunnam and Morena Baccarin, that just sounds like a blast. Obviously, you can choose to support this film or not, I’ll probably end up getting a screener anyway, but like I did with Dragged Across Concrete, if it ends up being something I enjoyed, I’m not gonna go out of my way to encourage people to see it.

Last Looks opens in select theaters and VOD platforms on February 4th.

Against The Ice

Wow, March, you don’t usually see Netflix promoting movies this early. Must be a good sign. The trailer is definitely good, and apparently Nikolaj Coster-Waldau co-wrote the script as well, so you know this is something he has his heart in. I find stories about early exploration really intriguing, and we don’t get a lot of them, so I’ll take what I can get. Luckily, this looks very effective and well done, so this is one I’ll be looking forward to.

Against The Ice will be released on Netflix on March 2nd.

We’re All Going To The World’s Fair

This made a huge splash at Sundance last year, and I’ve been hearing about how good it was ever since. Finally, it has a release date. I haven’t looked into the film, so this trailer is my first look into what the film is ahout…and it doesn’t really clear up much of anything. Which, hey, I’m actually totally cool with, I like being able to go into something knowing very little, and with how good the word-of-mouth has been, there’s no way I won’t check this out.

We’re All Going To The World’s Fair opens in select theaters starting April 15th before expanding to more theaters and digital platforms on April 22nd.
