Trailer Talk: Wolfs, A Family Affair, and more!

Wolfs

I don’t know if it’s just me, but I found the editing in this trailer to be very awkwardly timed. I don’t know if part of it’s because of the way they’re trying to incorporate the song or if it’s the usual chopping up of comedy scenes, thus ruining the flow of things, but it felt weird and long. That said, I am very much behind the concept here. I’m so happy to see Jon Watts back to crime territory, I really liked his debut film Cop Car, and I hope doing three Spider-Man movies hasn’t taken the edge out of him. This is very much my cup of tea, so I really hope this turns out good.

Wolfs hits theaters on September 20th.

A Family Affair

So weird that we got this and The Idea Of You in the same year. It’s basically that movie, but told from the least interesting perspective. This is from Richard LaGravenese, who has a truly wild filmography if you look it up, you never know what you’re gonna get from this guy. So, I can’t really say whether I feel this is gonna hit or not. It could go either way. Visually, it looks pretty bad, and some of the jokes are whatever, but that could just be the trailer. I honestly have no idea how to feel with this, if the word on it is good, I might give it a watch.

A Family Affair will be released on Netflix on June 28th.

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F

Man, they’re trying really hard to give the film that Tony Scott look. Tall order from a guy who directing his first feature length film, but I admire the ambition. I really like the other movies, and I like Eddie Murphy in them, they’re classic stuff, so it’s cool to see him go for one last round. I’m really excited to see Joseph Gordon-Levitt get in on the action. I wish this played in theaters because this looks like it would be a fun time, especially with a crowd. But I know I’ll be there once it’s streaming.

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F streams exclusively on Netflix starting July 3rd.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice

Micheal Keaton really hasn’t missed a beat, right? What a talent. This movie on the other hand, I don’t know, I really don’t know. In some respects, it does seem like Tim Burton returning to his roots, not just in terms of property, but in terms of filmmaking and craft, which is nice to see. But as much as I try to give him a chance as of late, you just never know how it’s gonna turn out. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this is at least going to be a fun time, but we’ll see.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice hits theaters on September 7th.

Moana 2

Yeah, sorry to sound like a broken record today, but…I don’t know about this. They reworked a TV show into a whole movie, and you can almost kind of tell. I’m not getting the vibe that there’s a story here that is worthy of following up such a great film. Everything just seems off. It’s really hard to describe. But who knows, maybe this will turn out pretty good. I can’t imagine this thing being completely devoid of charm.

Moana 2 will be released in theaters on November 27th.

Harold And The Purple Crayon

OK, at least we can end on something that I feel pretty definitive about. This looks bad. Just straight up bad. The effects look really good, I’ll give it that. But aside from that, this doesn’t look like it has any of the quaint charms of the book. I’ve become less amused by Zachary Levi as of late, and this is absolutely not helping with that. I guess I’m just happy that Carlos Saldanha is getting work. Still unfortunate that Blue Sky Studios had to get shut down.

Harold And The Purple Crayon opens in theaters on August 2nd.
