“Space Oddity” is a strange song choice for this trailer, I don’t think it quite works, which is baffling because you have “The Last Dance” as the subtitle of the film, but all that aside. This looks like such a hoot and a half. I can’t wait. This looks like such silly fun, and it looks like it’s continuing all the stuff that the second film improved upon after the first. I’m loving the dynamic between Eddie and Venom, the story setup looks solid, you got some nice fresh faces being brought in, and the action looks as delightful as ever. I was very pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed Let There Be Carnage, especially after being largely unaffected by the first film, but I am very excited for this.
Venom: The Last Dance hits theaters on October 25th.
Man, Fede Alvarez really has a thing for a group of twenty-somethings breaking into a place and getting brutalized. I had my worries that this was basically going to be a loose remake of the first Alien, and while I think there definitely will be an aspect of that in here, I’m sorry, this looks way too good. I just know Alvarez is gonna go hard on the kills in this, and I can’t wait to see just how gnarly he goes with it. I just love this series, I enjoy all the movies, I guess I just have a soft spot for its overall vibe. But I really think this looks fun, so I’m really looking forward to this.
Alien: Romulus hits theaters on August 16th.
Well, with Severin Fiala and Veronika Franz behind the camera again, I’m sure we’re in for a jolly good time. It’s been a while since their last film, The Lodge, came out, so I’m glad to see these folks back with their particular brand of bleak horror filmmaking. This definitely looks like something that they are really putting their all in. I don’t know if I’m ready, but I will definitely be there when the film is out.
The Devil’s Bath will be released in select theaters on June 2qst before streaming on Shudder on June 28th.
Looks interesting at the very least. It has a vibe that feels totally its own, can’t say I’ve seen anything quite like it. It’s a debut film, so not really sure what to expect, apparently it’s based on a Swedish book. But there is a really strong cast here, I really like the folks involved, and I can’t imagine all these folks coming together if there wasn’t something to this material. Although, the word-of-mouth isn’t great. But I might give it a shot anyways.
Mother, Couch opens in select theaters on July 5th.
Might as well have released this as the teaser cause they both give about the same amount of information away. Can’t say I learned anything new about this movie at all, but I am still very interested in seeing it, that hasn’t changed. I guess I can appreciate the addition of way more Jesse Plemons, he is someone I think we can all never get enough of. But yeah, this is still super intriguing, I’m always down for some Lanthimos weirdness.
Kinds Of Kindness opens in theaters on June 21st.
Sadly, Catherine Breillat is a bit of a blind spot for me. I know of her reputation as a very brash and opinionated filmmaker who often explores female interiority and sexuality in pretty confrontational ways, but I have yet to see her work. I hope to change that really soon, and hopefully this one might be a good start. The film looks solid and interesting, and there’s definitely a lot of potential to explore some really complex dynamics. I hope this plays near me.
Last Summer opens in select theaters starting June 28th.
