Tigertail
Shocker, most of these will be Netflix trailers. Go figure. Anyway, I’ve been very impressed with Alan Yang’s work on Master Of None, and I’m happy to see him branch out into features. This looks like strong work across the board. I guess given my own family history, I’m a sucker for these kinds of generation immigrant family stories, so I’m very excited to see what he brings to this.
Tigertail hits Netflix on April 10th.
Coffee & Kareem
OK, so this looks like garbage, but to be fair, I am usually not impressed by trailers for comedies. Cutting together a trailer can really mess with the timing of a joke or the payoff to a gag, so I’m not gonna hold this trailer against the film. But even then, the premise itself isn’t doing much for me. I’ve seen this kind of thing a million times, and it doesn’t seem like it’s doing anything that different. I’ll give anything a shot, but I can’t say I’m looking forward to this.

The Willoughbys
I think I Lost My Body and Klaus have really cemented Netflix as a powerhouse in delivering quality animated films that can easily compete with the likes of Disney, Illumination, Sony, Pixar, and DreamWorks. I like how none of the animated films they’ve produced so far looks like a Disney or DreamWorks clone. It’s nice to see a wide variety of animation styles, and while I can’t say this is topping my most anticipated list or anything, I am still curious for the animation alone.
The Willoughbys will be out on Netflix on April 22nd.
Defending Jacob
That’s a good trailer. Aside from Hala, I haven’t seen any Apple TV+ thing, and from the lack of any kind of discussions online with the exception of The Morning Show and that one series Shyamalan was involved with, it seems like not many other people are either. But hey, they invested all this money, got some talented people together, might as well put it out there. This being a limited series makes me more interested in checking it out, plus I like Chris Evans a lot as an actor. If I find the time, I might give this a chance.
Defending Jacob arrives on Apple TV+ on April 24th.
The Great
Well, you can definitely tell that this is from one of the writers of The Favourite, which was a film I loved a lot. And Nicholas Hoult was a highlight in it. By this point, you all know I’m super picky with shows, but this does seem like a really good time. If the word-of-mouth is solid, I’ll definitely consider giving it a watch.
The Great will premieres on Hulu on May 15th.
