I like this teaser, it’s really intriguing, it has a cool sense of mystery and suspense. I really have no idea what’s going on, but I do really want to find out. Kind of has The Village vibes. This is the feature directorial debut from Ishana Shyamalan, who is M. Night Shyamalan’s daughter, she did some writing and directing work on the show Servant, so clearly she must want to follow in her dad’s footsteps. I haven’t seen Servant, so I don’t know what her skill set is like, but I’m really curious to find out.
The Watchers hits theaters on June 7th.
Jon Benjamin’s narration is absolutely killing me. I kinda hope it’s exactly this obnoxious in the movie itself. What a cool trailer, and what a cast – well, except for Gelman. Sam Raimi being attached as a producer is quite the vote of confidence, he tends to produce really strong stuff, and I haven’t heard of this director, he’s some German guy. It’s been a really strong year for action cinema already, so I’m excited to see the trend continue.
Boy Kills World hits theaters on April 26th.
Holy moly, big budget, grand sets, lavish costumes, an expansive all-star cast, a passion project that encompasses, not one, not even two, but apparently four whole movies – looks like Kevin Costner is about to end his career on one hell of a high note. Don’t get me wrong, this looks amazing, but I can’t imagine a movie like this being the kind of box office sensation it needs to be in order to be considered a success. This looks like a really timeless epic, the kind they don’t really make anymore. I also love westerns, so this is just hitting all my sweet spots. Can’t wait to see these.
Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 opens in theaters on June 28th, and Chapter 2 opens in theaters on August 16th.
I feel like I haven’t seen Sean Penn in a while, I forgot how good he can be. This is the directorial debut for Christy Hall, whose only other credit seems to be a creator for a Netflix show called I Am Not Okay With This, which I did not watch, so I don’t know what to expect, but this seems to be a much different, lowkey kinda vibe. Just two actors bouncing off each other, being vulnerable. I can dig these kinds of movies when they’re done well. I do like this trailer. So, let’s hope the film is just as evocative.
Daddio will open in theaters on a currently undisclosed date later this year.
OK, so Bringing Out The Dead meets Training Day. Interesting combination, I guess. Hello again, Sean Penn, and also Mike Tyson for some reason. This is from the director of A Prayer Before Dawn, which I really dug, and I definitely see his gritty energy with this trailer. It seems like it’s doing…a bit much, but hey, maybe I’m ignorant, and this is what it’s like being a paramedic. Apparently, the word from the festival run was a bit mixed, but I’ll give it a shot since I really liked the director’s last film.
Asphalt City will be released in select theaters on March 29th.
This is a Romanian film from Radu Jude. I’ve seen a couple of his films, and greatly enjoyed both. He seems to have a very irreverent, vulgar, yet politically pointed sensibility that I find really interesting and amusing. Still not entirely sure what this movie is actually about, based on the trailer, but that Uwe Boll cameo looks fun. I’ll be keeping my eye out for this.
Do Not Expect Too Much From The End Of The World opens in select theaters on March 22nd.
