Trailer Talk: The Rental, Relic, and more!

The Rental

Alright, Dave Franco, consider me intrigued. Granted, I feel like, just based on the trailer, it seems like a fairly standard home invasion style flick where the residents are hunted down by someone, unless it’s hiding something more. But I like the cast assembled here, I’m kind of surprised Franco is sticking behind the camera, and it actually looks really polished and slick. I’m deftinitely curious about this one.

The Rental hits select drive-ins and VOD platforms on July 24th.

Relic

Looks good! While I haven’t read into any details, the word on this from its Sundance premiere has been very good, so I’ve been keeping my eye out for it. I am a little worried that the film is sort of equating the anxieties of aging with literal monster infestation. Yes, stuff like Alzheimer’s disease is scary, but I don’t think you need to attach a metaphorical supernatural horror element to it in order to tell a story. It’s just a slight concern, I’m sure the movie will be fine. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing what Natalie Erika James has in store.

Relic will open in select drive-ins and VOD platforms on July 10th.

Eurovision Song Contest: The Story Of Fire Saga

I’m just happy to see Rachel McAdams in another comedy. She was great in Game Night, and she looks even better here. Also, love seeing Dan Stevens here too. This trailer really gives a lot away, pretty much everything shy of the ending, but what I saw here I did find fairly amusing, so I am gonna hope that this turns out good. I haven’t seen any Eurovision before, so I have no idea if what is being shown here is in any way accurate to how things are, but that shouldn’t matter as long as its funny.

Eurovision Song Contest: The Story Of Fire Saga will hit Netflix on June 26th.

The Big Ugly

Gotta be honest, “I’m an oil man” just doesn’t quite have the same ring to it coming out of Vinnie Jones as it does coming from Daniel Day-Lewis. But Vinnie Jones wrecking havoc in West Virginia getting revenge does sound like it could be a really fun time. Can’t say I’m gonna hold my breath for this one, but who knows, it might turn out decent. At least, if you’re like me, and you like watching trashy action movies like this.

The Big Ugly is set to hit VOD platforms on July 31st.

Archive

Man, don’t you hate it when you’re out for a drive with your gal when a car suddenly flies into your vehicle and kills her? Jokes aside, it does seem to utilize what I imagine would be a fairly small budget really well. It’s got a nice look to it, the premise is intriguing. I like seeing what filmmakers come up with when telling sci-fi stories with limited resources. They don’t always turn out great, but sometimes you get something special.

Archive will be released on VOD platforms on July 10th.
