This was already one of my most highly anticipated films of 2022, and now it’s one of the best trailers I’ve seen in a while. Seriously, what an awesome trailer this is. Seeing Robert Eggers playing with a bigger scale and budget level is so satisfying, especially given how he seems to have the opportunity to lean in on some genre/action influences that he hasn’t been able to tap in yet with his previous films. Just going by some of the shots here, his has an incredible eye for staging action in a way that I can only describe as “casually badass.” Lots of nods to stuff like Conan The Barbarian, which is cool with me. I cannot contain my excitement for this, this trailer is going to be my crack for the next few months.
The Northman hits theaters on April 22nd, 2022.
Yeah, this looks pretty fun. I mean, we all seem to acknowledge that this is basically a straightforward riff on Romancing The Stone, but hey, I guess it’s better they push this an original idea as opposed to simply remaking the film, which I’m surprised they didn’t do (probably because that was a 20th Century Fox film). Anyway, this looks like it’ll be a good time, I dig the cast, the jokes are solid, and good on Sandra Bullock for getting a younger romantic lead. Though, I do wish they saved that bit at the end out, and kept it as a surprise. Felt like a waste of a good beat. I do find it funny they changed the title from The Lost City Of D to just The Lost City, I guess the obvious jokes about that weren’t tracking well to Paramount.
The Lost City will be released in theaters on March 25th, 2022.
The first comment under the trailer sums up my feelings on this pretty well, this looks cozy! Just a relaxing and quiet experience that lets you sit with these characters. Hong Sang-soo is quite good at making films on that wavelength, and sometimes, I can see it being a bit alienating or just not everyone’s cup of tea, but I think there’s a lot of value in that. Sometimes you just want something soft and comforting. This is a fairly well assembled trailer, or really more of a teaser. I’ll definitely try to seek this out.
Introduction opens at the Film at Lincoln Center on January 22nd, 2022, and will expand in the following weeks.
I loved Murder On The Orient Express, I felt like Branagh really captured the atmosphere of that story while still indulging in some of his own quirks as a filmmaker, which I enjoy, and I found the climax to be far more resonating than I expected than I expecting. However, when you got two actors involved who has since revealed themselves to be…let’s just say problematic, it’s a little hard to be enthused. I am of course referring to Armie Hammer and Letitia Wright. I’ll try not to let their presence bother me, but it definitely is unfortunate. It does look good though. I am still excited to finally see this after all those delays.
Death On The Nile will open in theaters on February 11th, 2022.
I think Charlie Day has a lot of promise as a lead, and he hasn’t really gotten a lot of chances to explore that. The premise here is pretty amusing, and Day and Slate both look great in this. Also, Scott Eastwood looks surprisingly funny here, it’s cool to see him cut lose in something lighthearted as opposed to being pushed as an action lead. I can’t say I’m pumped for this or anything, but it looks like a fun watch, and I’ll definitely check it out when it hits Prime.
I Want You Back will hit Amazon Prime Video on February 11th, 2022.
So, this is a three-part miniseries, with each story coming from different directors, Emma de Swaef & Marc Roels, Niki Lindroth von Bahr, and Paloma Baeza. I gotta say, I’m loving the vibe this trailer is giving off. I love the look, the creativity, the designs. It looks so different. I’m not familiar with these directors, so maybe this is an established style from them, but I’m glad they got a platform to really do what they want. I can’t wait to check this out.
The House hits Netflix on January 14th, 2022.
