Yup. That definitely looks like The Lion King. I wasn’t a fan of The Jungle Book, and I’m not really interested in seeing one of these “live-action” adaptations of Disney films that aren’t interested in doing anything new. Obviously, this is just a teaser, so maybe there’s more to it than what this is suggesting, but I don’t have much else to say at this point. All I know is that this is pretty much guaranteed to make a billion dollars.
The Lion King will be released on July 19th, 2019.
I…kinda dig this. I actually enjoyed Deadpool 2 better than I expected, and despite this essentially being a repackaged, PG-13 version of that, it looks they’re taking full comedic advantage of it. I love meta humor, and part of why I liked the second film was how much more further they went with that, so the rating restrictions here are probably going to be a running gag of sorts. I’m actually very curious to see how this turns out. Color me surprised.
Once Upon A Deadpool will hit theaters December 12th.
Sweet! It’s one of these Screen Gems, black-led thrillers! It’s been a long time since I’ve seen one of these. With films like No Good Deed, THe Perfect Guy, and When The Bough Breaks, they’re usually not particularly great, but they’re always a lot of fun, especially if you watch it with a packed crowd. Michael Ealy is super charming, and Dennis Quaid looks like he’s having the time of his life going full psycho. I honestly can’t wait.
The Intruder will open on April 26th, 2019.
I’m very excited for this. I’ve been hearing about Peter Jackson preserving and restoring old WWI footage for a while, and the results are beyond stunning. Jackson knows his way around technology and he’s using everything he has available to put his together, and from the early word-of-mouth, it’s paid off. It’ll be interesting to see WWI in such a new light.
They Shall Not Grow Old will play in select theaters on December 17th & 27th.
I talked about the teaser already, and my thoughts are still the same. This looks pretty fun, and despite Lord & Miller not directing, it seems to have their creative stamp all over this. I don’t really need to be more sold on this than I already am. I’m really looking forward to this.
The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part will open in theaters February 8th.
The whole FBI vs NYPD dynamic is an interesting concept, and it’s perhaps the only original idea here. It could be good. I like the actors here. Informant stories are about a dime a dozen, but if they play their cards right, this might work.
The Informer will be released on March 22nd, 2019.
I talked about this a while back when this was still playing festivals, but it looks like we finally have a domestic release for this, which is great. I’ll watch anything made by Asghar Farhadi, and I’m especially curious to see how he tackles a story that involves a culture that isn’t his (he’s Iranian). The cast is really the cherry on top, and the trailer is certainly cut rather intensely. I didn’t need to be more sold on it, I’m already into this.
Everybody Knows will be released in theaters on February 8th, 2019.
