The Irishman
I’ve been waiting for this movie for so long, it’s so great to finally see some footage. Scorsese has been trying to perfect the de-aging effect with this, and it seems good from what I see here. Scorsese has always been one of my favorite filmmakers, so I don’t need to be more sold on this than I already am.
The Irishman will open in select theaters and on Netflix on a yet unspecified date this fall.
The Lighthouse
Shoot this movie into my veins right now! I am so on board for this. I loved Robert Eggers’ first film, The Witch, and I’ve been highly anticipating his next project, which seemed like it was going to be a Nosferatu remake for the longest time, but I suppose that’s kinda off to the side for now (though, that would’ve been pretty rad). This trailer is great one, perfectly setting a strange and ominous feeling, and one that is unlike anything I’ve seen all year. I can’t wait!
The Lighthouse hits theaters on October 18th.
1917
That Sam Mendes. He makes pretty good movies. I’m just happy to see Hollywood finally realizing there’s a lot to mine out of telling stories from WWI. This looks cool. It’s a very well constructed trailer, I like the scope of it, the hook is compelling. It looks like it’s definitely going to be one hell of an experience. I’m really looking forward to this one.
1917 opens in theaters on December 25th.
Tigers Are Not Afraid
When you got a horror trailer that has pull quotes from Stephen King, Neil Gaiman, and Guillermo del Toro, you have my attention. This looks original, haunting, and creepy as hell. Plus, I love a horror movie that brings a fairy tale element to the story. If icons of horror are digging this, then I don’t need much convincing. I’m definitely checking this out.
Tigers Are Not Afraid will open in NY on August 21st, and LA on August 23rd before expansion.
Little Monsters
I normally wouldn’t have included this because this is an international trailer, and I would usually wait for a domestic trailer, but it’s a pretty slow week for trailers. Per usual, just when I think I’m all zombied out, something comes out that looks super promising, and this looks very promising. However, what sealed the deal for me was when I realized this was written and directed by Australian director, Abe Forsythe, who made a film called Down Under a couple years ago that I really liked a lot. Unfortunately, it’s still not available to see anywhere, but knowing he’s behind this makes me infinitely more excited.
Little Monsters hits theaters in the UK on November 15. Neon and Hulu acquired the domestic rights at Sundance, but no U.S. release date has been announced yet.
American Dreamer
I can totally dig Jim Gaffigan embracing his dark side with some of the choices he’s been making recently. I haven’t heard much about this film, aside from a few promotional images showing up a while back. This could be interesting, it could be trite, it’s a little hard to tell. But I am curious, especially with Jim’s casting.
