I don’t know much about the musical version of The Color Purple, I’ve only ever seen the Spielberg film, which still holds up rather well. The sounds do sound good here, and I like the cast assembled. I am aware of director, Blitz Bazawule, but haven’t actually seen much of his work. But I am curious to see what he does here because just skimming through his prior collaborations and projects, it seems like he’s got an interesting point-of-view. This will definitely be one to look forward to.
The Color Purple hits theaters on December 25th.
I always get a kick out of MPAA ratings where they mention that a film has “rude humor.” So, this is from Nick Bruno and Troy Quane, who’s last project was the Blue Sky film, Spies In Disguise, which was fine. I really like the animation style here. I like how post-Spider-Verse, you’d think we would start getting copycats, but so far, any film that has a somewhat similar animation style still manages to include touches and flourishes that are unique to them. I love it. This looks cool to me, so I’m excited.
Nimona premieres on Netflix on June 30th.
This trailer didn’t do much for me to be quite honest. It doesn’t look bad. In fact, with this case, I’d say this is something worth keeping an eye on. But there’s nothing in the trailer that really gets their hooks in me. Nothing is really drawing me in, there’s lots of implied drama, but nothing made clear enough to give us an idea what the movie is about. Perhaps it will be good, with this cast it wouldn’t be surprising, but I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
The Miracle Club will be released in select theaters on July 14th.
I really like this a lot. This is a cool premise, I think there’s definitely a lot of potential with this kind of story given the popularity of true crime as a genre, and the way people both exploit it and obsess over it. I’m on the fence on whether they should have given the twist away in the trailer, but I have a feeling that might be revealed near the end of act 1 or something. I’m certainly intrigued, and it’ll be cool to see Kiersey Clemons tackle a character like this.
Susie Searches opens in select theaters on July 28th.
It’s been so long since I’ve seen The Full Monty, but I remember being really charmed by it. I had no idea a sequel series was in the works or that it would even be something that was on the table. I feel like it was one of those “you had to be there” kind of movies as opposed to the kind you revisit over and over again, though maybe I’m wrong on that. This trailer is pretty charming, and I like the relatively low stakes, hangout vibes it’s giving. If the word is good, I might give it a go. Maybe check out the film again before.
The Full Monty will stream on Hulu on June 14th.
Yeah, obviously this looks incredible. Nobody does filmmaking like Marty does. This is probably my most anticipated film of the year. The trailer is haunting and very well assembled, I love the escalation. This is everything I want out of a teaser. And that closing moment, absolute chef’s kiss.
Killers Of The Flower Moon will be released in theaters on October 6th.
