Trailer Talk: The Broken Hearts Gallery, Over The Moon, and more!

The Broken Hearts Gallery

I think Geraldine Viswanathan is one of the most promising young talents we have today. She’s got great comic timing, solid screen presence, she’s very likable. But would I risk coronavirus for her? I’m leaning pretty hard on no, especially if for something that seems like a run-of-the-mill rom-com. Don’t get me wrong, I like my run-of-the-mill rom-coms, I like them a lot, but there’s a reason they’ve had a bit of a resurgence on Netflix. I’m sure this movie will be fine, but…come on, guys.

The Broken Hearts Gallery insists on hitting theaters on July 17th.

Over The Moon

So, this is directed by     Glen Keane, which is a name you might not know by heart, but he was an animator who worked on numerous Disney projects from The Rescuers, to Beauty And The Beast, to Tangled, and a lot more in between. This will be the first full length feature that he will be directing (he previously won an Oscar for the short, Dear Basketball), and it’s curious that his first big leap as a director will be on a Chinese production. This looks super charming and cute (I mean, did you see that bunny?), and it seems like there’s a lot they’re not revealing, given the last few seconds we saw. I’m very much looking forward to this.

Over The Moon will be out on Netflix sometime this fall.

The Sunlit Night

With movies like Obvious Child and Landline, I feel like Jenny Slate has proven to be a more than capable dramatic performer. I think the film has a good look to it, and it certainly makes a great use of its locations. However, I’m not totally convinced here. While I consider myself more open to tonal weirdness than your average moviegoer, the way the film tries to balance sentimentality and irreverence is really off, and most of it sadly revolves around Zach Galifianakis’ character, which sucks because I know he can do better. Plus, this is from David Wnendt, the director of Wetlands, which I liked quite a bit. I hope it’s just a weird trailer, and that the film itself is much more interesting and assured.

The Sunlit Night will be available on VOD platforms on July 17th.

Hamilton

Finally, I get to see what all the fuss is about. Though, I do hope there is as little tinkering as possible, since I’m sure Disney doesn’t want too many f-bombs on their kid-friendly streaming service. Don’t have much else to say about this one, it’s just something I’ve heard about for so long, and we’re at a point now where the initial hype has died down, and some folks who maybe weren’t as into the play have written some interesting pieces about it, so it’s not like we’ll be going into this with the big hype machine. I’m very curious to see how it turns out.

Hamilton will be hit Disney+ on July 3rd.

Greenland

I saw a trailer for this a while back, felt like forever ago honestly. I almost forgot about it. I don’t have much thoughts on this one. I’m always up for some Gerard Butler nonsense, and Ric Roman Waugh is a perfectly competent filmmaker. Plus, you can’t go wrong with Morena Baccarin. I’m just hoping it will be dopey fun.

Greenland will supposedly arrive in theaters on August 14th.
