The Bad Guys

This looks pretty fun. I gotta say, I’m surprised to see this look so different from the usual DreamWorks animation style. Sure, it’s still 3D animation, but the presentation is a bit more stylized than the usual. I guess it’s because this is from a French animator, Pierre Perifel, who has done work outside of the typical American production, so perhaps he’s able to bring something different to his feature length directorial debut. The voice cast is more than solid, Daniel Pemberton is doing the score, there’s definitely a number of qualities that are making me curious about this, so I’ll be optimistic.

The Bad Guys hits theaters on April 22nd, 2022.

Italian Studies

Hmm…I don’t know, with trailers like these, it’s hard to say. I can potentially see how this could be really interesting and riveting, but I can also see how it could be very tedious and dull. I will give it the benefit of the doubt, of course, especially given how Vanessa Kirby has for the most part picked a number of good projects and filmmakers to work with. She’s a good actor, and it looks like she’s doing good work here. I’ll definitely give it a shot.

Italian Studies opens in theaters and VOD platforms on January 14th, 2022.

Everything Everywhere All At Once

Hell yes, I am so in for this! I quite enjoyed the first film from the Daniels, Swiss Army Man. They showed so much creativity and imagination within their filmmaking and as soon as I heard they were doing some kind of sci-fi action movie with Michelle Yeoh, I was ecstatic. And this looks more than worthy of the hype. It’s just cool to see someone like Michelle Yeoh taking part in these small, weird projects. This just looks like a ton of fun, and I can’t wait to see it.

Everything Everywhere All At Once hits select theaters on March 25th, 2022.

The Unbearable Weight Of Massive Talent

When this was first announced, I was hesitant. Despite my love of Nic Cage, I was worried this would just be a self-satisfied exercise that would just make the same meme jokes about Cage and his persona. Thankfully, this doesn’t look quite that hackneyed. I’m surprised by the Buddy element, Cage and Pascal are an inspired comedy duo, and it’s making me far more optimistic about this than I originally was.

The Unbearable Weight Of Massive Talent opens in theaters on April 22nd, 2022.

You Won’t Be Alone

Noomi Rapace has been a part of a number of interesting projects over the past few years, even if I didn’t necessarily love all of them, like this year’s Lamb, for example. This is a very promising trailer. I know nothing about this so-called visionary director, but this looks really cool. The aspect ratio is used very well, it’s incredibly evocative, and raw. I’m not getting a strong sense of what the story is, but I’m sure we’ll get another trailer in time for its release. Even if not, this definitely has my attention, and I’ll be keeping my eye out for it.

You Won’t Be Alone hits theaters on April 1st, 2022.

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets Of Dumbledore

Gee, I wonder what secrets Dumbledore is hiding, heh, but anyway, yeah…no. While I didn’t hate the last Fantastic Beasts as much as some did, it still wasn’t an experience I was aching to revisit. I’ve had my fill of the Harry Potter world, and none of these Fantastic Beast films have convinced me otherwise. Also, why is the series still even titled “Fantastic Beasts?” There’s less of these beasts in each one, and they’re usually the most fun parts! Mads Mikkelsen is definitely one to catch my intrigue, but this is not something I’ll be looking forward to.

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets Of Dumbledore hits theaters on April 15th, 2022.
