Tesla
This trailer alone looks a hell of a lot more interesting than any moment in The Current War. I’m not super well versed in Michael Almereyda’s filmography, but the few that I have seen, I liked. His most recent, Marjorie Prime, I thought was very good. And plus, I love me some Ethan Hawke, you can’t really go wrong with him. I’m definitely looking forward to this. I’, always curious to see how filmmakers play with the biopic formula.
Tesla will hit select drive-ins and VOD platforms on August 21st.
Possessor
I suppose the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, I suppose. I have been meaning to see Brandon Cronenberg’s first film Antivirial, so I guess this gives me a good excuse to catch up on it before whenever this ends up getting released. The word of mouth on this was wild coming out of Sundance, so it’s definitely been one of my more hotly anticipated films of the year. In case you’re curious, there’s also a red band trailer on Neon’s YouTube channel, but there isn’t that much of a difference aside from a couple shot choices.
Possessor will be released at a currently unspecified date later this year.
Radioactive
After the trailer for Tesla, this does seem a bit generic, but I’m still interested in this because it’s directed by Marjane Satrapi, whose work I have enjoyed quite a bit. Granted, it isn’t written by her, that goes to Jack Thorne, a rather solid writer, but I think it still looks fairly compelling. Marie Curie definitely made a significant mark on history, so it’s natural she gets the biopic treatment. I hope the film does her justice.
Radioactive will be available on Amazon Prime Video on July 24th.
Project Power
Well, it’s an original idea, so that’s cool. Seems a bit silly, but it could be a good time. This is from the directing team Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, who did Paranormal Activity 3 and 4, Viral, Nerve, and Catfish. Not the most consistent filmography, but they do seem to bring a lot off energy to whatever they do. Plus, I’m totally in just for more Joseph Gordon-Levitt after seeing his turn in 7500.
Project Power will hit Netflix on August 14th.
Random Acts Of Violence
Can’t say I had “Jay Baruchel directing a slasher movie” on my Bingo card, but it looks pretty neat. I think the reasoning for not wanting to call the police is a touch ridiculous, but whatever. This does look rather fun. We don’t get a ton of slashers anymore, and this looks like a solid throwback. Not gonna hold my breath for this one, but the word of mouth seems decent enough. It’s definitely got my curiosity.
Random Acts Of Violence will be available on Shudder starting August 20th.
Words On Bathroom Walls
I suppose it was an eventuality that schizophrenia got the YA romance treatment, we had cancer with The Fault In Our Stars, we had cystic fibrosis with Five Feet Apart, and plenty of other ones I can’t remember off the top of my head. But hey, as long as its treated with empathy and sensitivity, which it looks like it is, it could be fine. Although, am I the only one who saw the trailer, and watched it again to see if the the girl interacted with anyone other than the main guy? Would they go there? Would they do that twist? I don’t know. I do like Taylor Russell though, and when done tastefully, I am a sucker for these kinds of movies. Who knows how this will turn out, but I’ll give it a chance.
Words On Bathroom Walls will be released in someway shape or form sometime this summer.
