Trailer Talk: Sword Of Trust, After The Wedding, and more!

Sword Of Trust

I’m not super familiar with Lynn Shelton’s work, aside from knowing she has her roots in the mumblecore scene, and has collaborated with the Duplass Brothers quite often. That style hasn’t really been my cup of tea, but I do like the look of this. If only because I like the cast here, especially having Marc Maron, who I’m happy to see pop up in more stuff. I’m definitely curious about this one.

Sword Of Trust will hit select theaters on July 12th and VOD platforms on July 19th.

After The Wedding

This is a gender-swapped English language remake of Susanne Bier’s 2006 Oscar nominated film of the same name, which featured Mads Mikkelson in the role played here by Michelle Williams. I haven’t seen it, but I have heard great things about it. I am intrigued by this, if only for the cast, the growing tension, and the fact that Michelle Williams is one of my favorite actors ever, and could do no wrong, even if she ends up surrounded by a bad movie. Usually movies that remake foreign films lose a bit of edge and freshness, so I’m curious to see how this turns out.

After The Wedding opens in theaters on August 9th.

Doctor Sleep

If there’s any filmmaker out there audacious enough to basically make a sequel to The Shining, and not have it be an embarrasing trashfire, it’s Mike Flanagan. I love this guy’s work, and he just keeps getting better and better at what he does. I have no idea what this book is about, aside from its connections to The Shining, so whatever this is, I’m excited as hell for it.

Doctor Sleep opens in theaters on November 8th.

Frozen II

Man, remember the first teaser and trailer for Frozen? It’s wild and kinda funny how vastly different the marketing approach is. I already talked about the teaser for this a while back, and my feelings are the same, plus, the trailer gives about the same amount of information anyway, so there’s not a lot to add. I’m excited, I can’t wait to see what they do here.

Frozen II hits theaters on November 22nd.

Them That Follow

I really like this. Walton Goggins as a religious zealot, something to do with snakes, and with a supporting cast that includes Olivia Colman, Kaitlyn Dever (who was fantastic in Booksmart), Lewis Pullman, and…Jim Gaffigan? Alright, sign me up, you got me interested. I don’t need to know anything else.

Them That Follow will release in select theaters on August 2nd.

Brittany Runs A Marathon

This looks like it could be fun. I was a bit worried at first because I could easily see a project like this fall into various traps of fatphobic humor, whether intentional or not, but it seems like this could be compelling and empathetic and nuanced enough to not be that way, at least, just based on this trailer. Jillian Bell has been quite good in some of the stuff I’ve seen her in, and it’s cool to see her take a lead role that seems quite intensive. I don’t know if this will make for great cinema, but it could be a good time.

Brittany Runs A Marathon opens on August 23rd.

Escape Plan: The Extractors

Honestly, I do not remember a thing about Escape Plan 2: Hades, except for the fact that I did not like it very much at all. And this trailer is pretty much all in-one-ear-and-out-the-other. I’m not that into this, but given that director and co-writer, John Herzfeld, has had some history working with Stallone, maybe there will be something more to this than whatever happened the last time.

Escape Plan: The Extractors will release on DVD/Blu-ray, and Digital HD on July 2nd.
