This looks super touching. I get pretty lazy when it comes to checking out documentaries, but I will try and seek this one out. I haven’t seen a ton of Robert Downey Sr.’s work, but the ones I have are very cool and interesting and idiosyncratic, the man was a talent who captured a certain feeling from the counterculture, and it was reflected on his work. It sucks that his passing kind of came and went, it was summer 2021, we were dealing with a lot. Also, this being from Chris Smith is pretty appealing, as American Movie is one of my all-time favorites. Very much looking forward to this, and probably crying.
Sr. Opens in select theaters on November 17th before hitting Netflix on December 2nd.
So…where is everybody? Where are all the other guys? Are they not in this? If not, I gotta say, that is kinda disappointing since the group dynamic was a huge part of the charm with these movies, especially the second one. I’ll still be open minded since it’s still the same creative team, and these movies haven’t let me down yet. And if it weren’t for the lack of the crew, this trailer is otherwise still pretty good. Keeping my fingers crossed for this one.
Magic Mike’s Last Dance hits theaters on February 10th, 2023.
This looks alright, I suppose. It looks like the kind of film that would make a splash at Sundance in the late 2000s. Doesn’t really look like my cup of tea, but I’m sure it will be just fine. I’ve seen plenty of films like this before, and they aren’t the most demanding, either for the audience or to produce. The cast does look solid here, and that’s usually the deciding factor on whether one of these works or not. You can’t go wrong with Olivia Colman.
Joyride hits select theaters and VOD platforms on December 23rd.
Not a bad premise for a holiday rom-com. Man, remember when movies like these used to play in theaters? Anyways, this is from Daryl Wein, who has made a bit of a name for himself in the indie scene. I haven’t gotten around to any of his films, but they do seem to get a generally solid word-of-mouth. This definitely looks like his most mainstream project to date, and honestly, given a quick skim of his prior work, probably looks like something more my speed as well, comparatively speaking. Plus, I really like Zoey Deutch, so if she’s attaching herself to something, I would like to assume there is something interesting about that project. Not gonna hold my breath for this, but I might get around to it.
Something From Tiffany’s will be released exclusively on Amazon Prime Video on December 9th.
I really enjoyed Girl On The Third Floor and Jakob’s Wife, so I’m definitely looking forward to whatever Travis Stevens is doing next. The guy has a cool take with horror, and each film has had such a unique vibe from one another. Plus, I’m really starting to enjoy seeing Josh Ruben pop up in these indie horror movies when he isn’t behind the camera. The trailer isn’t doing a lot to sell this as anything other than a serial killer survival flick, though given the talent involved, I’m sure there is more to this than meets the eye, and I can’t wait to see what this has in store.
A Wounded Fawn will premiere on Shudder on December 1st.
If you’re curious why this…looks…the way it does, I looked up the director, Clare Niederpruem, and she has apparently done a bunch of Hallmark movies. So, that’s why this kind of looks like one. But the amusing thing is that despite that aesthetic, it’s still hinting at a much raunchier side that doesn’t gel with that Hallmark Christmas rom-com vibe, though I think that might be intentional. It does seem too earnest to be satire or ironic, but it could be funny. I didn’t find the trailer funny, but I say that about most comedy trailers. Not gonna promise I’ll seek this day one or anything, but if the word-of-mouth is good, and I have time, I might give this a watch.
Christmas With The Campbells will be released in select theaters and AMC+ on December 2nd.
