Spider-Man: Far From Home

If I’m being completely honest, it’s hard for me to get excited for anything Spider-Man related, live-action specifically, given how invigorating and revolutionary Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse was. On top of that, I wasn’t particularly crazy about Homecoming, so sorry if I don’t seem to overly enthusiastic about this. Although, I do have some positives. It seems more vibrant than Homecoming, and I love the fact that Mysterio actually looks like Mysterio, fishbowl helmet and everything. I hope he wears it for more than one scene. This honestly doesn’t look bad, but it seems like everything I would’ve expected for the most part. So, fingers crossed, I hope this one turns out great.

Spider-Man: Far From Home opens in theaters on July 5th.

John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum

This is too good. If this actually sticks the landing, there is a solid argument for this being one of the all-time best film trilogies ever made. Each more stylish than the last, and the action is always more ambitious. I loved the first two, and this has been the top of my anticipated films of the year since it was announced. Not much else to say here, it just looks awesome.

John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum will hit theaters on May 17th.

High Life

I’m beginning to reach a point where I’m getting real sick of space movies that only ever frame space and space exploration as something dark, dangerous, and frankly, not worth doing, but I suppose as long as they’re all look as good as this, I’ll save my rage for another time. I mean, Clair Denis, Robert Pattinson, Juliette Binoche, Mia Goth, André 3000, what’s to not get excited about. Plus, I heard a lot of insane things since its premier at the Toronto International Film Festival last year, and I’ve been highly anticipating this since. It looks neat, and I can’t wait to see it.

High Life will be released on April 12th.

Little Woods

So, this looks awesome! This somehow flew under my radar, but I love everything about this. Tessa Thompson, Lily James, James Badge Dale, Lance Reddick, gritty crime drama, it’s like this was made just for me. After doing a bit of research, it appears to be the directorial debut of Nia DaCosta, so I’m definitely curious to see what she brings to this. It’s pretty well torn territory, but an assured hand and genuine voice is all you really need to make this kind of material pop. This is now one of my most anticipated films for the year.

Little Woods will hit theaters on April 19th.

High Flying Bird

I have zero interest in the goings-on of the sports industry, but if you got Steven Soderbergh, the co-writer of Moonlight, Tarell Alvin McCraney, and a cast that includes André Holland, Zazie Beetz, Bill Duke, and Kyle MacLachlan, then I’m in. It’s cool to see him experiment with an iPhone like he did with Unsane, and the results are pretty spectacular. I knew Soderbergh had a movie coming out this year, but I kept myself out of the dark regarding what it’s about. And it drops in less than a month too, so everyone better keep your eye out for this.

High Flying Bird hits Netflix on February 8th.

The Man Who Killed Hitler And Then The Bigfoot

I don’t even need to see the trailer. I’m sold. But for formality’s sake, I actually dug the trailer quite a bit, but I have a feeling it won’t connect with a lot of people because it seems to have a more serious, straight face to it, as opposed to being a straight up comedy, which I’m sure most people would’ve expected and prefered. I’m glad they didn’t go that route because I feel it’s the easiest, and it reminds me of how, despite the comedy, a film like Bubba Ho Tep managed to inject genuine pathos and drama to a silly premise. This looks like it leans harder on that element than the comedy, which is cool to me. And any excuse to see Sam Elliot kick ass and take names is good enough for me.

The Man Who Killed Hitler And Then The Bigfoot will open in select theaters and VOD platforms on February 8th.
