Gotta say, I’m pleasantly surprised at how ambitious this looks as a studio horror sequel. I remember the first film being not great necessarily, but better than expected. Though, if I’m being honest, I don’t recall much beyond that. That said, this does look pretty cool, and I like Naomi Scott. They seem to be going for something much bigger than the more intimate scope of the first, and I think there’s definitely potential for some really wild stuff here. I hope they take advantage of this opportunity.

A Real Pain
Jesse Eisneberg already has a new film out as a writer and director, that’s awesome. I remember thinking When You Finish Saving the World was pretty solid, I didn’t love it, but I think Eisenberg showed potential. And this looks like a big step up. It’s kind of hard to articulate why, but this feels so much more fully realized than his previous picture. Not much of the story being given here, but everything I see looks pretty good, so I’m definitely excited to see it.

Space Cadet
This looks super cute! I can’t recall the last time we got a nice little comedy like this. It’s a fun premise, and I dig Emma Roberts as a performer, she’s one of those that really commit if the situation calls for it. Not a whole lot to say about this really, it’s perfectly pleasant enough. I kinda wish

The Fabulous Four
Interesting that this is coming from Jocelyn Moorhouse, who made The Dressmaker. I know she has been involved in comedies before, but none like this. But I’m not gonna complain, I do like me a good old lady shenanigans movie. Sure, there’s no Jane Fonda or Lily Tomlin, but this is a really appealing cast. So, yeah, this could be a lot of fun, and it does seem to have a bit more edge than some of the other films that are similar, so I’ll definitely keep a lookout for this one.
The Fabulous Four will be released in theaters on July 26th.
Kneecap
This looks very fun. I don’t see a lot of films in the native Irish language, so this will be pretty cool to experience, and while this story framework is very familiar, it still looks quite endearing, and the basic idea will pretty much always be relatable to an extent. So, I’m definitely very curious about this. I haven’t heard much about this, but this will be one I’m keeping an eye out for.

The Instigators
Nice, we get two Doug Liman movies this year. I dug his Road House remake, and this looks like a similarly light crime caper, which is totally fine with me. I love these kind of movies. Sadly, it looks to be another case of a movie going straight to streaming. Great cast too. Not really into Casey Affleck’s involvement, but he did apparently co-write the script, so it is what it is, I guess.
The Instigators will stream exclusively on Apple TV+ on August 2nd.
